All the time people try to discredit gretzky and say he isn't the best or Crosby back then would score more.
I forget how exactly it's said but can someone post the thing about how almost 40 year old gretzky with a bad back out scored a prime 20 year old jagr. A jagr who has produced all through out the 2000s.
Can someone post this sayin with the exact stats and sticky it so we can end the debate?

    Well, that absolutely didn't happen.

Gretzky is 10 years older than Jagr, NOT 20 years older. Jagr was not in his prime at 20. Jagr outproduced Gretzky every year after Gretzky turned like 32 or 33.

Gretzky played 20 more games and had 2 more points?

In the link you just posted Gretzky beat Jagr by 2 points, while playing 19 more games than Jagr.

Gretzky at 35 had enough durability to play more then jagr could that year but people say gretzky couldn't make it these days? If anything this adds to what I'm saying.

Someone is going to post the thing soon and you guys will look silly.

When people convey their futile attempts to degrade Wayne Gretzky's greatness, and make empty claims like "well everyone was scoring bucket loads" ..etc

I point them towards the 1986-87 season.

    86-87 Scoring leaders:
    1. Wayne Gretzky-EDM 183
    2. Jari Kurri-EDM 108
    3. Mario Lemieux-PIT 107
    4. Mark Messier-EDM 107
    5. Doug Gilmour-STL 105
    6. Dino Ciccarelli-MNS 103
    7. Dale Hawerchuk-WIN 100
    8. Michel Goulet-QUE 96
    9. Raymond Bourque-BOS 95
    10. Tim Kerr-PHI 95
    11. Ron Francis-HAR 93
    12. Denis Savard-CHI 90
    13. Steve Yzerman-DET 90
    14. Joe Mullen-CGY 87
    15. Walt Poddubny-NYR 87
    16. Bryan Trottier-NYI 87
    17. Marcel Dionne-2TM 84
    18. Luc Robitaille-LAK 84
    19. Steve Larmer-CHI 84
    20. Larry Murphy-WSH 81

For comparison, do you know what the top 5 scorers would look like if the season ended today?

    1. Tyler Seguin - 106
    2. Sidney Crosby - 105
    3. Jakub Voracek - 103
    4. Evgeni Malkin - 100
    5. Steven Stamkos - 97

    --
Hmm... I only see one glaring difference between these top 5's, and his name is Wayne Gretzky. I personally feel that 86/87 should be stickied to quiet all the doubters to his greatness and dominance.

What? Jagr got injured so Gretzky was better than him through those years? What a ridiculous argument.

I'm not saying he wouldn't still be the best, but come on, compare the top 20 to now. They were scoring bucket loads. In the 2010s no season has had 2 100 point scorers, that year had 7. 20th place that year had 81 points, last year 20th place had 69 points.

96-97: Jagr played 63 games that season while Gretzky played 82. And Gretzky beat out Jagr only by a point. Every year Jagr and Gretzky played concurrently, Jagr performed significantly better.

I do like the point you are trying to make, but you just aren't using a very convincing argument.

Did you even watch Gretzky play his final season? He was far from anything special.

First of all, a sticky isn't going to end the debate. Second of all, a debate about Gretzky doesn't belong on the NHL forum since he hasn't played in the NHL in quite a while.
