Can the Leafs just get a goalie from the KHL?

Why not just go the the KHL and buy players? Why not just go buy a goalie without it costing a draft pick?

Any player signed from the KHL at this point would have to pass through waivers before they could join the team. At least that's what happened to Detroit a few years ago when they tried bringing Evgeni Nabokov across the pond mid-season. The Islanders ended up claiming him on waivers.

I’m pretty sure that the KHL season doesn’t end until after the trade deadline and they’d have to be a free agent before then to play in the playoffs.
