The NBA hasn't gone through Boston since Bill Russell retired. The Larry Bird era was great, but it was shared with Magic and the Lakers, and lets be real, the Lakers were the better franchise in the 80's, achievement wise. Boston has also won just one title in the last 33 years now, while making it to just 2 finals. The NBA has been running through any LeBron-led team, Golden State and even the Spurs for the last many years now
totally disagree, until Cleveland, Miami or Golden State win 17 titles.....or 11 out of 13

I'm from Boston and I will concede that the Bulls winning 6 of 8 ( would have been 8 of 8 had Jordon not taken a voluntary suspension) was more impressive than the Celtics run.

The Celtics could have been a power in the late 90's - BUT

A still alive and in his prime Reggie Lewis leading the celtics would have at least given the Knicks or magic a series on their way to the finals when Jordan was playing baseball

What in the wide, wide world of sports does 11 out of 13 championships won 50 years ago have to do with who the NBA goes through today? Your posts are truly incomprehensible. You might as well say the NFL runs through the Green Bay Packers because, well, Vince Lombardi. It's logic!!

Whether they care about them or not, they are 100% irrelevant to the question "Who does the NFL Championship go through in 2019?", just like the Celtics dynasty is 100% irrelevant to the question "Who does the NBA Championship go through in 2019?"

The Warriors, Spurs, Lakers, Pistons, Rockets, and Heat all have more titles than Boston since 1986. The Celtics literally have the same amount of titles as Cleveland and Dallas and the same number of finals appearances as the Nets, Knicks, and Magic in the last 30 years. I’m not doubting the greatness of the Celtics history but that’s what it is: history. It doesn’t amount to much relevance when discussing who’s the team to beat this season

Most nba players today came up though the shaq Kobe Duncan era the Celtics probably have as much relevance as the mid 2000s pistons outside of New England

Yea pretty much. As I said above, if the Celtics are still the team to beat in the NBA cuz of their 17 chips, which all but one of them were won over 3 decades ago, then hockey still runs through Montreal and Toronto and baseball still runs through the Yankees...

Agree with earlier posters, Celtics have the best chance of making the finals but the Bruins have the best chance of winning it (should they actually make it there)

Neither one is likely to win it though, never mind both.

I'm not saying it will happen but if we aren't a top 5 team we are top 7/8 in both hoops and hockey so with both leagues having 30+ teams you have a chance if you are in the top quadrant.

Its sort of a shame that the trade deadline is going so poorly for both the Bruins and Celtics. Teams around the B's are getting better and the Celtics Kyrie situation is up in the air (its bad for us that AD didn't go to LA he doesn't want to come here IMO we wanted them gutted.) Winning all 4 would be amazing.

The Bruins are 5th in the Eastern Conference...2 Points out of 2nd place

The Celtics are 4th in the Eastern Conference..3.5 games out of 2nd place

1st place out of reach for both teams

The Bruins are not the weak link

There actually in the same spot

Both upper to middle tier Eastern conference teams with slight shot at title

The path for the Celtics is much easier than the Bruins (Toronto, Montreal, Tampa, Washington).

The East is weak in the NBA and strong in the NHL. That's why they are the weakest link of the two.

Both of them would have a pretty tough path to the finals this year since the NBA east is no longer as crap. If the playoffs started today, this would be their potential path to the finals:

Celtics:
Round 1 - Philly
Round 2 - Bucks
Round 3 - Raptors
Finals - Warriors

Bruins:
Round 1 - Leafs
Round 2 - Lightning
Round 3 - Penguins/Capitals
Finals - best in the west

If these are the match-ups come playoff time, that's gonna be a VERY tall order for both squads. The nature of hockey gives the Bruins a better chance to win the title if they can get hot, but the Celtics have a better chance to make a deep run in general just to fall short to GSW

Milwaukee
Toronto
Philadelphia

Are probably the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best teams In the NBA...and the Celtics will have to play all 3 to make the nba finals

Not so sure if we are WC1 and play Cbus/NYI and get an easy finals matchup which we will be favorites to win thats not a bad path.

Philly>Milwaukee>Toronto>GSW would be as tough as it gets even if we beat the first 2 last year they are more improved than us with our 2 'stars' back.

The Celtics are the 4th best team in their conference and the Bruins are at most 4th best in their conference so I'd say it's a longshot.
