As shown in the Columbus series, Tampa needs players who can get in on the fore check, and win battles along the boards.

Panarin doesn't fit that description, and he would make it harder to sign players like Point.

He could perhaps help them top 128 regular season points, we'll give you that...

Sounds good for fantasy hockey though.

Otherwise, no.

After what just happened, wouldn’t be surprised if some players would be willing to move and waive their NMCs after this historic breakdown. Some players struggled under Cooper’s system, and a new scenery will be good for them.

As per Panarin see him going to the other Florida team or the Rangers.

Tampa is already behind cap wise.

They have two tiers of players they can move to free up cap space. Everybody else has trade protection.

Kucherov, Point, Vasilevskiy.

And then,

Gourde, Miller, Callahan

They already need to move two of the second tier just to pay Point. It's possible that Gourds already has a NTC since his contract was a UFA contract and sometimes players have NTCs retroactively added .

If they want a big FA like Panarin, Duchene, Karl, not only do they need to move Miller+Callahan, but they probably have to move one of Kucherov or Point. I guess if they could get something like Hughes for Point and then double dip by signing Karlsson or Panarin with the 10M freed up by not having to sign Point, maybe that makes sense, but that NHL 19 type of wheeling and dealing rarely happens.

Parnarin and Bob are going to the Panthers. They are doing this because there is a big Russian community there and many of these players have homes there. They are going there because they want to. Tampa isn't going to change that.

For their part, Tampa does not need Panarin. Period.

Of course they can, when Panarin becomes a free agent, any team can sign him... :naughty:

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say. The Bolts have plenty of skilled guys who can create magic chances out of nothing; they need more folks who can and will grind down the other guy and a commitment to take on that task. There's a few who tried (Killorn really caught my attention in particular), but it wasn't enough and it wasn't a team effort.

They probably can, but they probably shouldn't.

I mean, trade some big contracts, like Callahan, Palat, Johnson and sign Point and Panarin + some cheap grinders/rookies instead?

Panarin + Kucherov on the same line could be sexy.

Tampa is losing 4 defenseman in Stralman, Colburn, Girardi and Ruuta to UFA, so that might be the biggest concern at this point.
Not that they are hard to replace but they will cost the saved CAP. Still think there is a trade to be made with the Sabres around
Risto.
Maybe something around Risto, Nelson (RHD) and a cheaper winger in Sheary for Callaghan, Miller and Foote. Then go sign Point and
Panarin.

If Tampa is going to sign anyone, I wonder if it would be Zuccarello. Significantly cheaper than Panarin. Fairly consistent playoff performer. Maybe he takes a discount to go play in Tampa with some of his former Ranger buddies and a shot at a cup (provided Dallas doesn't win this year).

We probably could, but our problem isn't exactly a lack of skill and finesse. We shouldn't be looking here for solutions.
