The sadness comes from the fact that the Simpsons should have died fifteen years ago. It's terrible nowadays.

Even almost 30 years later, I'm still picking up on subtle jokes I didn't understand at the time. By the mid to late 90's, they moved from clever writing to slapstick and one liners.

Yeah, they got a complete new set of writers.

Simpson’s since about 2000 is like watching Willy Mays playing centerfield for the Mets. Something that was once amazing just embarrassing themselves.

I’d say that is the big difference (along with episode demands) on why South Park has stayed great because Matt and Trey are still the primary writers and directors. Simpson’s has gone through so many sets of writers at this point.
