Currently second in PPG for WHL defensemen. I feel like I should've paid more attention to the WJC this year

Future 1D, superstar, Anthony DeAngelo but way better, like twice as good. Dare I say 80 points minimum?

In all seriousness, it's cool to have a higher end defensive prospect. Seems like the realistic outcome is 2nd pairing offensive guy and PP specialist, which is cool.

He's a RD though, so I wonder what this means for guys like Belpedio and Menell, and even Dumba? We're starting to have a nice collection of RD's.

Not a bad problem to have.

Uh; Spurgeon, Dumba, Menell, Belpedio, Johansson, Johansson and now Addison. Are we going to covert Dumba to center?

Johansson's are non-factors. Addison is likely 2-3 years away from top 4 duties. We're fine for now.

Is he still CHL eligible next year?

I don't think so, but I'm not positive. He'll be 20 in April, which does make him AHL eligible. He's already spent four years in Lethbridge. I think the smart move would be to bring him up to Iowa.

Trade from a position of strength to add to a position of strength. Just how we drew it up.

He's 27th in the WHL in points per game, and 2nd among WHL defensemen. Only one ahead of him is an undrafted overager. He's right there, ever so slightly ahead of Ty Smith (albeit Smith is better defensively).

How are they non-factors? They are still prospects in the Wild system and we don't actually know how well they will adapt in NA. It's just that we don't have to rush them given the depth Minnesota has.

This kid is still a few years away, I'm sure a lot will change but the time he's ready. Still good to have a high end prospect added to the mix on D.

Short term, not sure it affects much, but it will eventually have longer term affects.

We did see what they said they would want from a Dumba deal, so we can already scratch that off until later for the time being.

Brodin is still the most likely D traded from the top 4 for now.

I don't see it. Brodin the best defender we have. Suter is not getting any younger Addison, Dumba, Mennell are all smallish RHD's known for their offense, and we already have Spurgeon, who is a small RHD who is also vg offensively, though he is also a great defender.

I think Dumba might get moved, but they will be in no hurry to do it. Also possible that Addison is used as a trade chip. His recent play at he WJC boosted his stock. I don't see Mennell having great trade value till he proves himself in the NHL.

Suter is locked in for a long time. Spurgeon is locked in for a long time. Dumba, would be a mistake to move until you can get the return his talent level demand.

Brodin is going to be due another contract after the expansion draft. He's still the most likely to be moved...8 think Dumba eventually gets moved too, but not until his game bounces back.

I just don't think either are destined to be here beyond their current deals.

Addison will be in Iowa next season it appears but that would mean something has to give with Menell/Belpedio. That could be moving Pateryn and finding a 3rd pair spot here or moving one of them to open up the top 4 in Iowa. Addison isn’t a bottom pairing type of player so someone in some organizational capacity will need to be moving.

Certainly don’t see it being Dumba, Addison too far away and the return value isn’t there at the moment. And it terrifies me to trade him given what he’s shown he can be.

Trading Pateryn for a mid to late round pick and calling up Mennel makes the most sense to me.

Belpedio can play on the left, too. I'm not sure what Iowa has for defensemen under contract next year, but Menell, Belpedio, Addison seems like a pretty good start for a top-4.

It'd still be nice to move Pateryn to make room for Menell at some point here, though.

Both Belpedio and Mennel are RFAs after this season.

Addison was ranked #52 in Pronman's midseason prospect rankings. That would be third best on the Wild, ahead of Khovanov.

If Belpedio does play left, it would help. The Wild, strangely enough, have zero depth outside of Warren on the left.

Bottom pairing defenseman isn't quite the same as a 4th line forward. You can put an offensive/PP QB there pretty easily, as we've done with Hunt all year. Especially a young one breaking into the league. Just probably need to find a left-handed Pateryn to play him with.
