What a strange poll

Marner should win this easily. I voted (Colorado fan for Makar) because I see him as having some truly ridiculous potential. Who knows if he actually gets there. Marner's a much safer bet, but I'm gonna gamble on this one!

Marner without question. People quickly forget how stacked the top of the 2015 draft was. Marner vs Hischier is a much better debate to have.

bad teams (like the leafs were forever) will often take forwards to help immediately. Now they're wishing they took Provorov or Werenski
Where have the leafs ever stated that they had wished they would have taken A blueliner over Marner?

why would they want brazal or rantanen over provorov?
your teams been pretty mediocre since last SCF too, when was that again?

lol when SCF is the barometer for success....because your teams havent won anything in 40+ years either so cant use cup wins as the standard eh?

barzal is significantly better than provorov. thats why they would want him.

This isn’t a discussion. Marner would have likely gone 1st or 2nd in 2017. You are talking about a player who put up 2ppg as a 17 year old, vs a late birthday defender in the AJHL.

To put it in perspective, Marner went ahead of Hanifin, Werenski and Provorov. All who go ahead of Makar in the same draft, and likely go ahead of Heiskanen, although him vs Werenski is fairly debatable. Not that draft order is gospel, but Marner was pretty much universally in the top 5.

Oh come on, Marner would've gone 1st in 2017.

Somehow people forget that Marner was 2.0ppg in both the OHL regular season and playoffs in his draft year. That's much higher than Hichier and Patricks (1.5 and 1.4 respectively). You might argue that they took Strome over Marner though, but Strome himself was at a much higher (1.9).

You may argue points aren't everything, and fine, however Marner was also partly centering his line, playing heavy PK minutes and was one of the rotating cast of captains London had. He was also competing with Jack Eichel and the best or 2nd best player in the world currently (and lost to that team in the playoffs).
