Improve? Nono, he needs to completely relearn them because he is really bad in the circle. Hes a bottom 6 faceoff guy..

Faceoffs are Hischiers worst part of his game by far
Not that unusual really. A lot of the best faceoff guys in the league were terrible at that age as well.

A decent game for Blackwood, made the stops he had to make, misplayed the first goal a bit, looked rusty at times which is expected coming off of something nagging, but overall otherwise a nice first game back. The confidence is just there right now from a fans perspective that when shots are getting poured on Blackwood or opponents are getting good opportunities on him, you don't have to worry or take a deep breath as often about the puck going in which is something that we haven't been able to feel for well over a year.

As far as the power play goes, not much needs to be said, the numbers speak for themselves and visually, they are allowing other teams to walk all over them, keeping them on the perimeter of the offensive zone which leaves the units stuck against the boards and blue line. We are up a player and are getting taken control of rather than taking control of the play and creating some chaos between the dots and up the middle. An opposing coaching staff preparing their team to play NJ, going over the tape of how NJ sets up its power play unit and its tendencies, must love only having to convey applying as much pressure as you need to and it will throw them off their game.

The play last goal was despicable as well, it's no wonder both teams are at the bottom of the league. Players coasting around and us making a line change with a handful of seconds left. Sports 101, play until the buzzer goes off or at the very least have control of the play if you want to slow it down. What happened there cannot happen.

If another goalie had started for us we either lose in regulation or would be in OT.

I thought MarJo was too soft and careless with the puck.
But he is an obvious upgrade to Rooney.

I wanted that PZ post blast to go in so badly considering the opponent

As to the power play, our zone entries have improved very much over the last month. Having gone to the bigger line up - Boyle, Zacha, Zajac, Palms and Butcher (only Butcher is small) - we are also less susceptible man-for-man to the pressure on the puck.

Still, Butcher at the top of the triangle continues to be vulnerable, and is not getting his shots through. Lack of the successful QB is therefore a big issue.

Also there are three other elements that need improving. Puck movement, shot selection and puck retrieval after shots. All are too soft.

We need to move the puck much faster, get the opposition spread out more, and then take better and faster shots. Palms and Butcher have been hesitating and then shooting right into shot blocks after very little and hesitant initial puck movement. After which our retrieval of the puck has also often been poor.

not a fan of the 1pm starts….hard to watch these days when im trying to finish projects outdoors before is get too cold……

Agreed. Do you "have a life" on Saturdays or do you watch a Devils game right in the middle of the day. Wouldnt be so bad, but almost every weekend game this year is a day game, only TWO home Saturday night games all season makes for the worst schedule ever. The only people who like this are the handful of European Devils fans, or Devils fans who are couch potatoes.

Thinking about it more, we also need to get more motion into our power play once we do get possession in the end. Not only move the puck fast but also get our guys switching positions and moving more. So that the defense has to move and react and this creates more lanes too.

We stand around too much.

And that’s the down side of utilizing the big but not mobile personnel like Boyle and Zajac, with the poor skating Butcher on the same unit. We put them in together to deal with how vulnerable we were to one-on-one pressure. But we lost mobility.

Could be that mixing in Bratt and Johansson up high may give us more creativity. Getting Hall back of course will make us much more dangerous.

Sounds like Power Play 101 to me.

I don't think we need both Boyle and Trav on the PP.

Boyle just missed a PP goal that was ripped by Hart and just missed top shelf

Bratt's worst game this season IMO
Fumbled too many pucks
