Agreed, although its worth noting Nate has some fantastic line mates.

Because he's earned it. He started out on the 3rd line with Mitchell and McGinn(?) and managed to produce at a great pace even with those guys so naturally he was moved up the lineup for bigger duties.

saw him taking some defensive zone faceoffs last night. Hartlet staying true to his words of giving Mony more responsibilities.

edit: played almost 21 minutes last night :o

With Stajan now away from the team for the next bit he will be needing to more as well. Hartley has really used him in all situations.

I wish the Flames were in a position to reward Monahan with better linemates if he earned it. Wingers from the 1st-3rd lines are all the same.

It's not quite that dire, but it is close. Once you get past Hudler, there isn't much separation. Cammalleri's obviously a great finisher, but he has been absolutely terrible lately. And then there isn't a ton of difference between the rest of them (which speaks well of some of the rookies).

It's pretty telling that a lot of the rookies are natural centres playing the wing and really don't look any worse than the regular wingers...

And that pace improved when he moved up lines. Are we really going to pretend they had no impact? Telling me hes moved up in the lineup for playing well is a bit obvious..

I love him as a flames fan but Nate is starting to runaway with that title imo

Nate may be a better player but Monahan keeps getting better.

Anybody notice they shared the most goal scored since their draft?

He had a slow start offensively this season, but the last few weeks he's been playing No. 1 C minutes.

It's astounding how steady he's looked for a 19 year old. He's getting better int he dot, his coverage is improving, and his strength and confidence playing against the other team's top players looks veteran.

This kid plays well beyond his years already. In a few years he's going to be a stud. All of that above isn't even mentioning his nose for the net and penchant for being a goal scorer.

Monahan and Bennett down the middle is going to be great for the Flames for a decade plus to come.

The amount this guy has improved in the last year is astounding. He may not even score more points this year (I think he will by a tiny bit), but his overall game has improved by leaps and bounds. Other than scoring goals, last year he was obviously in over his head.

This year he's faster, stronger, smarter, better at face-offs, better play-making . Really I think the Flames may have found a young Rod Brindamour.

Looking more and more like he will develop into a number one center. And with Bennett probably ending up as our #1 center long term the Flames are set at the most important position on the ice IMO.

9 points in his last 8 games, which is exactly when he had to start playing #1 center minutes.

The explosiveness he added to his game is making him a complete player. He knows where to be and he has the speed to get to those areas now.

Fell to our lap at #6 and we can't be happier with our bae.

Sorry if this is a dumb question Flames, but is the situation similar to the Avalanche?

They had Duchene & drafted Mackinnon, you have Monahan & drafted Bennett. Future number 1 playing behind the number 1 today or it Monahan the number 1 of the future. Just a bit confused, he looks good. Really good this year.

Thanks.

Yup, who knows how Bennett will progress, obviously nothing is certain until he can get healthy and play in the NHL, but I am more and more sold on Monahan's ability to shoulder top line duties throughout his career with each passing game. If Bennett can reach his ceiling, even better.

As an Avs fan, I'd rather Have MacK and Monahan then MacK and Duchene
