He looks good, but not dominant. The Wolves have some other strong players, too. Remember, the AHL is diluted this year, so performances need to be taken with a grain of salt. Some of the best, most experienced players are on taxi squads, and some players chose to play in other leagues because of Covid. Meanwhile, you have some 18 yo 202o draftees and other juniors playing in the league because their league is off, like the CHL.

you are right, but I thought that Tomasino's style isn't necessarly flashy and dominating the puck. He can and has in junior but I would say he's the type of player who's very efficient. He is very good all around and converts well on his opportunities. I think he could be ready to be effective in the NHL before he truly dominates the AHL to says so, becaus ehe's not gonna look like a flashy Zegas for example.

It depends on whether you want him to hit the ground running in NSH, or break him in slowly. At this point, the AHL is the worst I've ever seen it. Even most of the rough stuff is more comical than anything, whereas it used to be a tough league.

Tomasino is certainly in the top tier of players down there, though.

Whatever your idea of dominant is, Tomasino is outproducing some real high profile prospects in his age group in the AHL.

This includes Quinton Byfield (8 goals, 12 assists in 30 games), Cole Perfetti (9 goals, 17 assists in 32 games), Alex Turcotte (6 goals, 15 assists in 30 games) and Jack Quinn (2 goals, 7 assists in 15 games).

For all the hoopla around Zegras, Tomasino's production is right there with his.

Time for the future. More Byfield and Clarke

I liked the kid and hoped LA could have grabbed him. Glad to see he is doing well. He should be a good one.

Great season for Tomasino, but I don't think the measure of his success should be a group D1 players like Byfield, Perfetti, and Quinn. Exciting to see him outperforming his own draft class and older players.

No dog in this fight--other than I pay some attention to the Wolves.

Tomasino is out-producing all of the following from his draft class:

Turcotte: AHL. 31gp/6g/15a
McMichael: AHL 31gp/12g/9a
Podkolzin: KHL 35gp/5g/6a

Based solely on production, Tomasino's season is right there with Boldy and Newhook in the AHL.

Tomasino is one of those guys that gets perpetually under rated.

2018/19 - 34G, 72P with little powerplay time, late 1st rounder

2019/20 - 100P in a shorted season and doesn’t make team Canada for the WJC

2020/21 - Makes team Canada and plays well, but doesn’t get moved up the line up. Puts up over a point per game as a 19 year old in the AHL, still nobody is talking about him and no NHL call up

Great season, but absolutely no point in trying to compare KHL stats to AHL stats.

Although PNHLe is flawed, as are most metrics, Tomasino's production is outstanding for a teenager. See the projection here: Phillip Tomasino

It's above that of these other guys, while adjusted for age.

There are a fair number of examples where comparing production in both leagues has a point.

Dan Sexton: KHL--352 GP/100 G/182 A/ .80 ppg
AHL--144 GP/36 G/64 A/ .69 ppg

Linden Vey: KHL--199 GP/46 G/122 A/ .84 ppg
AHL--278 GP/78G/155 A/ .82 ppg

Paul Szczechura: KHL--395 GP/100G/144 A/ .62 ppg
AHL--272 GP/81 G/111 A/ .71 ppg

Niklas Jensen: KHL--183 GP/ 73 G/59 A/ .72 ppg
AHL--277 GP/ 86 G/63 A/ .54 ppg

Eeli Tolvanen: KHL--74 GP/24 G/25 A/ .66 ppg
AHL--121 GP/26 G/25 A/ .59 ppg

Honestly you may try but there are countless factors that will affect. First there is the level of play this year in the AHL vs past. You have guys like kaprizov who adapted very welll and had a nice role. Others like shypachyov who have a harder time. Different playstyle, personalities have a huge impact.

Besides, Kaprizov was slightly above PPG in the KHL. That doesn't make him comparable to a PPG player in the AHL.

Very impressive numbers in the AHL . Great value picking him where the Preds did. I’m still pissed NJ did not take him with their Shakir Mokakahamoolinadulin pick .

Different draft. Tomasino was a 2019 pick and the only pick the Devils had before Tomasino went they used on Jack Hughes. Shakir Mukhamadullin was a 2020 pick.

Well, I would argue with you most years, but not during Covid, where the AHL has been weakened by top players being out on NHL taxi squads, and opting to go to other leagues. There have been a lot of Juniors playing in the AHL because either their league didn't play, or had a truncated schedule.

Tomasino looked very good in the few games I saw him. Like a top level AHL forward. Not dominant, but VG. I noticed he is was pretty chippy in the few games I saw him in. It's nice to see he has an aggressive edge, but I would bet that NSH would want him to focus more on his skills, as he has the potential to be a skilled top 6 guy. I don't think he is as well equipped to be a gritty middle six guy.

How are his chances of breaking on to the team out of preseason?

How have his faceoffs been? Looks definite he would play center? Wasn’t sure if he was ready for center or they were just grooming him there.

Always liked the kid. Thought he’d be top 6 minimum coming off the draft.
