I have done quite a few long term sims for the Jets and it usually takes most guys until they are well into their late 30's before the surpass a lot of Kovalchuks records. Sometimes I wonder what might have been if he stuck around for the move.

Ya i really don't think trading Laine is a smart move, as a matter of fact it would be down right stupid.

I think by the time he hits UFA he will be 5th in the all time points list below Little.
That's before turning 26 years old.
Barring injuries.

If he stays a Jets after it will be a race with Schiefele for 1 - 2....

Jets players performance last 5 playoff series appearance

First few things i noticed from that 5 playoff rounds

1) Matthew Perrault really killed our bottom 6. He was consistently not producing
2) Connor and Wheeler was not able to generate without Schiefele to center them vs Flames.
3) Big Buff was a big loss to this team
4) Now that Buff is gone, we need more Offense in the playoff ( when we get there ) from Josh

Also those 10 points from Stastny won us the biggest playoff series, that against the 1st overall Predators. Including 2 goals, the first 2 goals of the game, in the decisive game 7, right on Rinne's doorstep.

And not just Buff but Myers was a playoff performer too.

Not to be on Laine side again
But one of those goals was a top corner shot by Laine that hit Stastny glove on the way .

Yes Stastny was a very big part of that run.....
He fitted like a glove for this team..

Myers scored timely goals vs. Minny and Preds.

It's ok my memory is failing me anyways, it was Tyler Myers who scored the first goal in game 7, just like he scored the first goal in game 2 of the Minnesota series. Stastny had 3 points in that game though, and 2 goals from inside 5 feet, something to consider when measuring the success of Laine-Ehlers.

Stastny was huge for us that year. We don't even sniff the WCF without him.

Ehlers Scheifele Laine

But i can understand now why Ehlers and Laine dont play with Schiefele.
