He'll be fine but the show should be called something else.
I don’t think bright and Kyle Dubas belong in the same sentence.
personally i think harnarayan singh should replace cherry
get some fresh blood in there. burke is an old dinosaur just like cherry
Since Subban isn't playing well for NJD, maybe he can "retire" early and replace Don Cherry. That way, you'd have someone with experience, modern insight, and better skills to be a true ambassador to the sport instead of an outdated coach who messes up players names constantly.
The more diversity the better!
While they're at it, they need to replace MacLean too. Make a clean break and start over.
He's actually one of the first guys I thought about who would be great ambassadors for the game and a great candidate, if only he was retired.
if Burke gets in a car wreck or something and sustains some slight brain damage, he'd be the perfect replacement
... Smart? Winning Pedigree? Mind for the game? Eloquent? Playing AND Exec Eperience? Actual Hockey Hall of Famer?
In other words, everything that Cherry lacked to make his job properly?
Welcome aboard, Hayley Wickenheiser.
Burke would be terrible and I wouldnt watch a single episode.
Haha so true
Coaches Corner has always been Don Cherry's Corner. It should be gone forever (unless TSN picks it up along with Cherry).
Doing the replacement based on Cherry's demeanor would be the lamest thing ever. They'll probably just come up with a new segment, or just double up on the panel approach they do in the 2nd intermission.
Burke is probably the best available direct replacement if they want to carry on with the general format/schtick of Coach's Corner but I hope they go in a different direction for the intermission show.
Well, you couldn't really call it coaches corner anymore.
Burke wouldn't be a bad choice to finish out the season. Then they can get the lay of the land and see who should be next.
Problem is, will they have chemistry with Ron?
Option 4. Burke is a good hockey mind but shouldn't be Cherry's replacement. Give the job to someone younger.
Show should just end and be replaced with something else entirely. Just throw a paper-plane off the CN Tower and whoever it hits gets a show. Certainly couldn't be any worse of a choice for a voice for the nation.
Babcock would be a good replacement probably...
Only if they rename the segment : Tied off and TEED UP
and get him a spitter
I think Burke is an upgrade in the angry old man department. When he gets pissed it's sometimes worth listening to.
My issue is that Coach's Corner is .... the coach's corner. He's never been a coach and Burke hasn't played since a brief AHL stint 40+ years ago. He's an exec. He provides a lot of insight to follow up the gossipy inside the org stuff that Elliotte Friedman churns up. That's probably the best role for him, paired with Friedman, where he is now. We're used to having those kinds of newsy segments, but for this vacancy I'd either like a coach's corner with an actual coach, or a new segment from a player that has played in the last couple decades. Personally I think Mike Johnson provides a lot of insight as a recent player. There's plenty more like that too, smart guys who know the game from the player's perspective.
Pierre McGuire replacing cherry would be must see television
You are not going to replace Cherry.
Sorry it's not even worth trying because it will fall flat on it's face. It will just be like every other intermission report with guys talking at a desk.
The 5% who were so "offended" over Cherry should give their heads a shake.
No Don...No show! A new format will be the only way...The producers would invite unwanted criticism/comparisons if they are too stupid to come up with any fresh ideas.Might as well turf MacLean as well.
Someone more diverse
