"Selon ce que rapporte le journaliste et insider Darren Dreger de TSN, le Canadien a tenté de mettre la main sur l'attaquant Andre Burakovsky des Capitals mais la transaction aurait finalement avorté quand le DG des Caps, Brian MacLellan, aurait demandé le jeune attaquant Artturi Lehkonen en retour. C'est à ce moment que Bergevin aurait mis un terme aux pourparlers."

So, to make it quick: Darren Dreger said that the Habs and the caps were going to trade for Bura BUT they asked for Lehkonen and the Habs said no and back down.

It brings the value of Lehkonen higher than Burakovsky.
What would you pay for Lehkonen ? I think the trade was fine and I would have accepted it.
Lehkonen > Burakowski ?
Offer for lehky ?

I wouldn't trade Lehkonen for Burakovsky. I'd rather have Arturi.

Bura has been better the Lehkonen in the past but Lehkonen is better this season. Makes sense the Habs wouldn't be interested. Not sure why the Caps think they'd want to make a move like that.

Title is misleading... it seems the trade was agreed upon then someone backed out. The way Dreger explained it seems to be Habs are interested then once MB learned the price to pay just said ''Thanks, but no thanks''

Wonder if the Caps would have any interest for a guy like Hudon
Him and a later round pick might be good value for both teams unless a team out there is willing to overpay for Bura

I don’t think you’re going to get much more in an offer for Lehkonen, honestly.

Which is fine because the Habs have no need to move Lehks. Habs fans around here complain about him being an offensive black-hole, but they complain about every player not essentially being a different player. He's had no offensive luck, that's for sure, but he's still solid defensively, can forecheck, skate hard, take a beating and get back up easily, a great third liner at this point. He does everything right except get his sweet shot off or have any offensive luck and is still pretty young. My $0.02.

Puljujarvi for Lehkonen
I would do it, but kinda feel like it's a low blow trading Finnish player for a younger Finnish player.

My 2 cents is that MB would refuse this trade because Lehky proved way more than Pulju did.
only reason to trade is because of his draft rank

Plus, Burakovsky has to be qualified at 3.25 mil. I doubt Lehkonen costs that much to re-sign. My guess is that's a big reason why Washington would do that (with Connolly and Vrana to re-sign and a roster to fill out in the off-season), but I can see why Montreal balked at that.

I mean, this would have just been a lateral move. I think Bura is the better scorer but Lehkonen is the better defensive player. Just seems pointless honestly

I heard it on TSN 690 this morning from Dreger, this is old news. The teams talked months ago about this trade and basically the cost to aquire Burakovsky was Lehkonen and Habs backed off. No new news here.

It goes to show how much management and coaching like Lehky.

Plays hard every shift, very reliable player dfensively, kills penalties, protects Kotka when mistakes are done by him, easy to coach, lot's to like.

I see why Bergy would have killed talks over Lehky. His defensive importance to the Habs outweighs the extra little offence we would gain from Bura.

So he didn't almost go to Montreal.

They didn't even come close to agreeing on trade parameters.
