Fair deal. His next contract could be expensive considering he is going to be seeing top 6 time all year.

Not too shabby. He's probably good for 25 goals with a little more icetime. I was worried someone was going to screw us with an offersheet.

Does this take him right up to UFA? Or is he like Kuzya and we'll have him as a RFA at the end of it?

Usually (most cases) it takes 7 seasons to reach UFA, 27 years if player is signed in an age of 21 or more.

So for most talented guys who start to play early its ELC (3 years) + 4 years of RFA.

ELC + 2 years bridge = 5 and 2 years left.

Majority of 1st rounders are exactly like that.

EDIT: No discount either. Will wait for Carlson to be extended to conclude the retool plan.

Ok good.

So Cap-Friendly has the team with 16 signed players and $5,589,893 left.

If they add Copley, Bowey, Walker, Vrana, and Graovac, they have $2,073,560 left. 22 man roster would allow a 2m player add.

If they want to add antother 650k F, then they would have $1,423,560 left for another D.

Or have 2 different 1m vets to plug (Vanek/Jagr/Fisher/Stafford on F, Oduya/Streit/Campbell/Beauchemin on D).

Trade Grubauer. If they use Vrana, Copley, Bowey, Walker (or any of the 650k F's from Hershey) and Graovac, they will have some space. Not using either Vrana or Bowey would add even more space.

Caps have options. Off season isn't over yet. Give the man (GMBM) a chance to finish his roster.

who would be interested in Grubauer? Buffalo? seems the goalie market is pretty slim.

It's the higher end of the comparable range on a 2 year bridge deal, but it's still within in. Pretty much what we expected.

Gmbm's way or workjng.... 2 year prove it contracts. He did it with Orlov - which turned into a long-term 5+ million deal. Then Kuzy... another 2 year prove it deal that gave him max years and huge payment... then Connolly a 2 year deal and now Burt a 2 year deal.

This seems to be the trend

1.42 could land a solid dumpster dive value pick up. Don't care if it's spent on O or D with so many holes to fill

Have to hold him until goalie market gets better... But this is GMBM so he might coin flip trade him

if GMBM can find a good dumpster dive option than it might be worth it to trade him, even for a smaller than ideal return.

And there are a ton of forward and defense options still out there.

Until Buffalo moves Lehner (which is now more of an if than when), they're full up. Lehner and Johnson in the NHL, Ullmark in the AHL.

Not many teams with vacancies out there. San Jose may want a back-up, but given how much they invested in Martin Jones I assume they'd want a cheaper true back-up than a 1B like Grubauer. New Jersey could potentially be interested if they don't see Kinkaid as part of their long-term plans, but pardon me if I'm not too eager to trade with Jersey again.

At this point I'd wait until either someone's goalie gets hurt and they want a replacement or for next off-season. Ottawa only has a year remaining on Anderson's contract, and Condon probably isn't a long term solution as 1G. Halak is set to expire after this year as well, so maybe the Islanders depending on how Greiss does. Granted, guys like Mrazek will also be out there as competition for them moving Grubauer.

Wait it out and see how the regular season plays it out. Trade deadline will be most interesting as if the caps in a strong playoff position would make that move to trade having one foot in the future versus the short team insurance policy.

Its the "strong playoff position" that has this team on the down trend. The future is bleak because of the "strong playoff position" already. They love to hold on to guys then lose them for nothing.

So you would rather us not be a playoff team because then we would maybe be a strong playoff team down the road? But then we would be a strong playoff team in the future which would hurt our future-future plans?!?!? Man what to do......
