To New Jersey:

Why Buffalo does it:
If they decide to to move O’Reilly this gives them what they’re looking for. A young winger with great speed who can play up and down the lineup.
A solid top-4 right shot defenseman who adds a hard shot from the blue line, something Buffalo lacks. And a future top-6 offensive forward with speed in McCleod.
Why New Jersey does it:
Jersey gets a top line center who can do a lot of the heavy lifting for Hischer. Zajac’s defensive role become secondary and he doesn’t have as heavy of a weight to lift protecting Hischer from d-zone minutes. Zacha can be moved to wing where he will be more effective. Hall, O’Reilly, Palmieri, Bratt, Hischer, Johansson, Zacha, Zajac, Coleman is a really solid top-9 group of forwards. With Boyle as the 4C this gives Jersey a good group of forwards with enough cap to go after a guy like Carlson, or a Mike Green.
