Buffalo Bills training camp recap, day 16: Josh Allen with the second team again

Wednesday morning marked the final day of training camp for the Buffalo Bills at St. John Fisher College and aside from being a lighter practice, it still gave us plenty of storylines to mull over before the regular season begins. "Pirate Day" was also rescheduled to today from yesterday due to inclement weather.

Fullback swap and injury updates

Quarterback situation still unclear

Odds and ends

Bills wrap-up training camp still working through quarterback competition

Pittsford, NY (WGR) - Training camp for the Buffalo Bills ended exactly the way it started: on a hot, sunny day on the grass field at St. John Fisher College, and no closer to knowing who will be the starting quarterback Week 1 at the Baltimore Ravens.

All of the questions we had about the position back on July 26, when the team opened camp, still remain exactly 20 days later.

The only thing that’s changed is that Josh Allen ended camp by primarily working with the second-team offense. He started with the third-team. Allen, once again, was the second quarterback in on Wednesday, the last practice before the team's preseason game against the Browns, which is a good indication that he will see the field with that group Friday night in Cleveland.

Nathan Peterman and A.J. McCarron, once again, rotated with the first- and third-team offenses. Wednesday, it was McCarron’s turn with the first unit.

There were a few other interesting personnel developments Wednesday:

Buffalo Bills break training camp: Five things we learned

When the Buffalo Bills pulled up to St. John Fisher College three weeks ago, they were a team that had no idea who its starting quarterback was going to be in this 2018 season.

As they pack their bags and head back to Orchard Park Wednesday following their final training camp practice in Pittsford, they still have no idea.
At least that’s what coach Sean McDermott was portraying when he was asked if the competition between A.J. McCarron, Nathan Peterman and Josh Allen has yielded a frontrunner.

“All three are playing well … there’s great competition, and that’s healthy for our football team, healthy at that position in particular,” McDermott said. “All three have had their moments, both good and bad. The great part about these young men is they’re learning from the (moments) that haven’t gone their way.”

Until McDermott picks his starter, the focus will remain squarely on the competition. However, there were plenty of other things taking place at Fisher during the Bills’ 19th camp here, and here are some of the things I learned watching the practices.

1. Wide receiver is still a problem area

2. Center has been a spirited battle

3. Linebacker is still an area of concern

4. The secondary looks outstanding

5. Marcus Murphy should make team

Bills' GM Beane bullish on keeping training camp in Rochester

At the conclusion of their 19th annual training camp at St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills loaded their moving vans and headed back to Orchard Park.
Will it be for the last time?

The trend in the NFL is for teams to hold preseason practices at their ever-improving regular-season facilities.

But Bills general manager Brandon Beane said emphatically, “It’s not my trend.’’

Speaking to the Democrat and Chronicle, Beane said that as long as he and coach Sean McDermott are calling the shots, they are committed to holding training camp on the road and in Rochester.

“I love it here, it’s a great spot,’’ Beane said. “We both believe in it. We actually went out to dinner last night and talked about it. As long as we’re in charge, we’re going to camp.’’

Here's hoping Sad Ramsey becomes a meme in short order. I'd love to see a compilation video of every time he got torched by each of the people he slammed.

Bills claim DL Albert Havili

The Bills made a roster move at the close of training camp Wednesday, as they claimed rookie DL Albert Havili off waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Havili plays both defensive tackle and defensive end. The 6-2, 255-pound Eastern Washington product was a second team All-Big Sky Conference honors as a senior. Havili was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in sacks with seven. He also had 41 total tackles, four passes broken up and seven quarterback hurries.

To make room on the roster the Bills designated DT Marquavius Lewis will be waived/injured.

Joe B: 2018 Buffalo Bills Training Camp Awards

(WKBW) - August 15 has come and gone, and that only means that training camp for the Buffalo Bills is over and done with until the summer of 2019. Throughout the three week stay at St. John Fisher College, we've had plenty of memorable days and a lot of roster fluidity.

We've also seen some players stand out for both good and bad reasons, which leads us to the yearly tradition on the final day of camp. So that we can wrap the practices with a tiny bow, it's time to hand out some awards.

Without further ado, the 2018 Buffalo Bills Training Camp Awards:

Very good so far. The contrast between McDermott and Hue Jackson (if you watch Hard Knocks) is.. startling.

McDermott: "Today we're going to introduce 3rd down... 3rd down is a critical stat and correlates highly to winning football games."

He follows that up with Jerry Hughes and Rod Streater simulated 3rd and 5th situation in Madden.

Dion Dawkins giving Wyatt Teller a pep talk.

WOW. McDermott calls out the offense for not celebrating a good play (a TD), then shows defensensive player making a good play and a bunch of guys celebrating with him. Called out Tre White before that for celebrating after a play, saying to show your personality and have fun. Not expected from him.

To be fair when one is produced by HBO and the other by the team's media department it's not a surprise one team comes out looking better.

I think McDermott > hue, but I'm sure if it was hard knocks they would find more drama top include or hone in on any signs of ineptitude
