This.

Bylsma's ridiculous usage of Girgensons was one of the more maddening things he did. For whatever reason he refused to slide him out to wing where his skillset would complement our skill guys really well.

Yeah. Girgensons seems fine as a bottom-6 Center, but if you want to get a bit more offense out of him...his skillset probably fits better as a winger.

Always nice to have players with wheels and versatility like that though. At a very reasonable cap number.

It's amazing what signing a depth forward at a respectable cap number will do to totally change the perception of a player......glancing at these Boards during the last couple of regular seasons, Saber fans were ready to stick this guy in a paper box and FedEx him to any team in the NHL that wanted him.

Not to quibble, but Zemgus Girgensons was a first round draft pick (14th overall)...Saber fans are right to expect a lot more from a guy drafted in the top half of the first round.

"Stop comparing Zemgus to these clearly worse players(Adam Lowry) please."

"Girgs had 15 g 15 a in 61 games last year. This year was a slump, he is also a great defensive forward. His value is pretty good and is only 22 years old."

"No interest in 2nd rounders, top 4 LHD or bust."

The point is, if you look thru that thread, Sabres fans were not looking to ditch him. In fact, many said the same thing...top 4 LHD or they keep him.

When they said this, they felt his value was at an all time low after getting 18 points in 71 games. They assumed he would bounce back. Instead, he posted 16 points in 75 games. Now, he is a guy who has only reached 25 points 1 time in 4 years and that 30 point season looks like an outlier and not the norm.

As for his contract, it suits what he has done.

One thing is for certain. Girgs is thrilled to see Dan Bylsma getshoved out the door and a guywirhfreah ideas in. Gotta believe Housley will help him get some of his game back. The guys is unlikely be a 40/50 point guy but he's got more than he's shown these past two seasons.
