Another guy the Oilers were talking to before the league shutdown. I suspect he's going to be getting a lot less than he would've if he would've signed in January or February.

At least though for Sheehan he didn't know about Covid screwing things up. AA and his agent should've known better as they had an offer before free agency for a lot more.

I’m surprised he’s only getting a PTO. He’s a solid 4th liner, and was the top forward on the #2 PK in the league. You’d think Buffalo (who had the 2nd worst PK last year) would have just signed him
To think that, you'd have to think the folks in charge in Buffalo know what they're doing. How long has it been since they were in the playoffs?

buffalo signed players who can play on PK

Even though Buffalo has the space, I think all PTOs have to be looked at through the possible lens of a handshake deal.

PTOs are done for 3 reasons...

1 let’s see first hand how you are
2 we need to wait and use LTIR space to sign you at start of season
3 we are unsure of our cap space we have right now because we are not set yet when it comes to trades.

his signing has nothing to do with Mittlestadt.

he woukd be more of a 13/14 F or taxi squad whileMitts is more of a regular player.

Is anyone going to give Gilbert Brule a look so he can resume catching up to Sid?

He was a decent enough 4C for the Oilers last year. Great on the PK but quite underwhelming 5v5. So if Buffalo needs a PK specialist it's a good pickup.

Yeah I’m actually surprised if it’s just a PTO he didn’t get one back in Edmonton. He’s a solid 4C with good defensive ability and like you said was one of the PK FWD’s in the league last season. He was rumored to be given a contract offer at the same time Archibald was, I remember reading Spector saying that you could likely expect a dea around the same time. Unfortunately the COVID stoppage probably made that drop

Probably need to shuffle some cap around and work out contract placement. *shrug*

He only made 900k last year, and with the way contracts are going now, it’s hard to see him getting a raise. There shouldn’t be any need to shuffle cap

They have $3.4 million in possible performance bonuses. I could see them wanting to make sure they have the money free and clear prior to putting more into their projected cap hit.

He has all the ability to replicate what Larsson brought minus the irritating hard ass style. I'm very very fine with this signing. Depending how Cozens and to a much lesser extent Quinn and Mitts work out I'd be fine having Lazar and and Sheahan out there for their 9 mins a night doing the yeoman work.

Playing Quinn in the NHL this year would be a mistake imo.

Quinn is at least getting a look this season (subject to what happens at the WJC). I’d prefer him to be in Ottawa but we have no idea what’s gonna happen with the OHL this year. Unfortunately there’s only 3 American teams in it, so they can’t have their own division which would help

Terry and Kim Pegula are the "folks in charge in Buffalo."

They owned the Bills through a rebuild that's got the team poised to make a run at the SB this year and set up to be competitive for a long time. As much as the Sabres have been a disaster since they bought the team, they're obviously not completely inept at sports team ownership. Let's give credit where it's due: Tim Murray and Jason Botterill were terrible GMs.
