I would switch Hainsey with Zaitsev (at least until Z proves he's back to form)....but ya, i'm good with that.

Toronto kind of does need him I like Ron Hainsey but he can't play top pair again, that just can't happen again

    Above 10m AAV?

Otherwise i wouldn't really give either team more than 1% chance of getting him.

I don’t think he will leave Washington but if not, any reason why he wouldn’t come to Canada? I mean he’s done it before. London is less than 100 miles from Toronto

    Has he said anything?

Dont break the bank for him. His numbers are inflated by Washingtons PP.

    Caps will resign him anyway.

Lol I'd be perfectly happy keeping him for 8.25x8 and I imagine the rest of the Caps organization would be as well. Toronto or Buffalo would have to pay 8 digits on a 7 year deal to pry him away

    He's worth it too

The thought of the Leafs signing Carlson to a 7 year deal for >= $70M makes me want to cry [mod]

if buffalo signs him, i'd imagine they'd trade RoR for futures

Caps are offering 8Mx8years, it will take other teams 10Mx7years to steal Carlson, most likely he signs with the Caps

Man everything lined up great for Carlson to get paid this season. Top defenceman in scoring, cup winner... I can see teams offering him 10+ with max term.

Yeah could see this one coming from a mile away. Carlson is probably gonna be making $8M per lockout proof.

Both these teams and a few other could use him BAD.

Seems pretty much a forgone conclusion at this point he will make around there. Only question is which suitor he chooses.

With this logic I'm surprised we even have free agency. Seems like every UFA is just going to re-sign with their current team since they can offer 8 years.

Whoever wins this battle is going to lose hard in the end. 10mil for a D coming off a career year in his final season, AND also getting the cup boost. So much regret incoming

Most of the time its how it shakes out. What's the last big time player to leave as a UFA? Teams usually lock up the players they prioritize.

I don't want the leafs signing a top 5 playoff D in the league for what Marleau and Zaitsev would make any more than you do

I hope so then they can cripple themselves trying to resign Marner and Matthews who looks like they will be taking the Leafs to the cleaners.

Its be nice but I cant see WSH not signing him. But if he's smart he leaves. That teams window is closing or closed. Too many good players making a lot of money. They sign him to a big deal one of Ovi, Backstrom kuzy or Holtby has to go within this ur or next.

all of them have at least 2 years on the contract, have a decent to great value for their salary and proved they are able to win a cup together. The only longterm brutal contract they currently have is Oshie and even it probably is going to be okay for the next couple of years. To re-sign Carlson, Wilson and ideally Kempny they will have to trade Orpik packaged with something, but he had great playoffs and it's far easier and cheaper to do than last year, for example. Basically, should Carlson re-sign with Caps they have at least a 2 years window, maybe a little bit more, depending on how Ovi and Backs age and how their youth perform.

I dont think anyone would want Orpik. Maybe us? Tough checking D but he is older and style of play maybe catching up with him
