Yeah, I look at their "interest" in big name players as little more than a marketing gimmick. No real intention of ever trading for the elite guys they were linked to.
Were that the case I would get why. See why below
God can we please just get a new ballpark built already so we can stop dealing with this crap? The Lightning would draw 25,000 on a Tuesday if Amalie could hold it. Imagine what the Rays would do here with the best young prospect in baseball and fresh off another pennant
I really wish there was some rich dude who would google howto buy a baseball team out there.Jesus, for as lucky as Bolts fans got with Vinik the Rays have been suffering through the Sternberg circus for a long time now
Every time I get pissed at Stu I remind myself how we'd put out like 9,000 people on a Tuesday in 2009 fresh off an AL Pennant. It's hard to measure that he's been a bigger letdown than the fanbase
Atrocious stadium location, transplant northern fanbase, yadda yadda yadda there are some serious issues with drawing fans to games versus the convenience of watching the games from television. The Rays are in the top third for television ratings though, something nobody ever talks about, there are plenty of people here who like to watch baseball, they just don't want to invest the time and money into supporting the team. To do that you have to actually love the organization, something that is hard to do when the ownership group doesn't invest back into the community.
Vinik got right early on, the Lightning have spent decades developing their fanbase. It's easy to feel good spending money on the Lightning, and not so much the Rays. My opinion anyways
I think the idiotic city sharing idea has completely torched the relationship at this point. Asking for ANY money for a part-time team's stadium IS audacious, hands down. If he truly wants a new stadium built he needs to take that off the table.
