Good dealing by Sweeney, he basically managed to move up 20 spots in the draft here by re-couping that pick.

Sucks though, because I still like Vatrano. Still think he has a chance to make it, I wish him the best in Florida.

Love the people on here and Twitter saying he sucks and/or good riddance. He was literally a college free agent signing for nothing. He was valuable simply from the fact that it didnt cost them anything. The fact they turned him into a 3rd is even better.

Glad I got to watch most of that year in Providence, he was a treat to watch.

Frankie goes to Hollwood, Florida? Not awful. When you look at it in combo with the last trade, it's basically taking away Vatrano, adding a rental defenseman who could be signed if we need him next year, and upgrading our third round pick.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to assess the value of the third factor; does anyone really know what picks 93-124 look like? It's good, but probably not mindbogglingly good.

But losing Vatrano's not a disaster; yes, he'll improve with getting some ice time in Florida. But we're all stocked up on young forwards here, and considering we were down to our 10th D in the playoffs last year, Holden provides some value.

So...I'll just have to relax about this one. Good job, Sweens.

Good post...Bruins got him for what? Nothing? Wasn't he a chubby kid that could score like no other, lost some weight and got better playing in Providence? Never transitioned to NHL. Wish him the best! I see him succeeding in Florida!

Now I have that song stuck in my head - thanks, cool song!

I'm happy for Vatrano, as I didn't see him getting much more of a shot here. I expect him to torch the Bruins when he plays against them. Just seems the way it usually goes.

Hate it but understand it
I guess that sums it up well.

I really think Vatrano is a player who was undervalued and overlooked here. I still expect him to be a player. So that's the "hate it" part.

But, recognizing that they just seem to prefer the other prospects in the pool and given how low his value must be after burying him on the depth chart all year, I understand why they would deal him.

In terms of the return I'm split there as well. If Vatrano becomes the player I think he's capable of becoming, a 3rd is going to look like we got robbed. On the other hand, a 3rd is quite the haul for a spare part who never plays. I guess the ultimate decision on the return will rest with the scouts and what they do with the pick.

I really like Vatrano but he wasn't going to crack in here, and may not even in Florida. Love his character and shot but he may be destined to bounce around to a few teams before playing his days out in the AHL im afraid, I hope not and wish him the best of luck though

Folks complaining that Sweeney traded the third in the Holden deal should be happy because now we have a higher third in its place

We essentially got an NHL depth defensemen who had a good year just one season ago for Rob Ogara, a guy whos ceiling is likely a good 5-6 guy but wasn't going to happen here, and upgraded our pick for another guy that would be bottom combinations but not here. Good stuff by Sweeney so far

If Donato comes in and adds scoring/helps balance the top 9, he's going to look even better.

I will not be surprised at all though if he makes not one but two more moves

Considering the flack we got for giving up a later 3rd for Holden, we've improved the draft spot by a few slots, and we moved O'Gara + Vatrano for Holden.

Hopefully Sweeney isn't done. At least he's addressing which players he sees as part of a future here or not at this stage.

A 3rd is decent value for Frankie Vats. The kid showed flashes, but was surpassed by others.
I like what Donny is doing. I'm guessing it's going to be a busy weekend.

So two guys with no place on the long term plan for Holden and upgrading their 3rd round pick. Not bad.

I think there is a chance Frankie puts it all together, but even if he does, its not bad value right now.

I've always liked Vatrano, I would of liked to have kept him for depth for the playoffs, but with a roster crunch with the Holden acquisition, I'm not surprised at the move.

Much like O'Gara, who I also like, Vatrano got passed this season by other left-shot wingers. And like O'Gara, also has other left-shot wingers behind him pushing for jobs this year and into next year.

It kinda hurt Vatrano that he played so much in his first two seasons, he wasn't able to go back to Providence to work on his game without going through waivers. And this is pretty much proof he had zero chance of clearing waivers, despite what some around here said.

Of the two, I think Vatrano has a better chance for success and would not be surprised at all if he goes onto be a 20-goal-a-year winger. And good for him he will go somewhere where he will get an opportunity to play more hopefully.

At the end of the day, Sweeney got what I think is fair value for this player in the return of a 3rd round pick, so from that perspective I like the deal.

I don't see him as much more than a 4th line energy guy at this point who can chip in with some goals....could maybe find a niche as a PP sniper specialist.

I could be wrong though as I usually am.

I always had high hopes on Vatrano but it was evident that his time here in Boston was over. I guess he will turn into a good 4th liner with lots of energy and some timely goals due to his great shot but nothing more. I once thought he could become Krejcis winger but that time seems long ago. Too many kids ahead of him right now on the Bruins. Good luck to him in Florida, hope he enjoys it.

I like Frank, but there's no room for him here. Getting a 3rd rounder for a guy who's been a healthy scratch all year and has 31 points in his NHL career is a pretty good return.
