Bruins add Swedish defenseman Axel Andersson, Czech forward Jakub Lauko in NHL Draft - The Boston Globe

The Bruins made their first selection in the 2018 NHL Draft in Saturday morning’s second round, using the No. 57 pick on defenseman Axel Andersson.

Anderson, 6 feet and 179 pounds, is an 18-year-old from Jarna, Sweden. He played for Djungardens J20 in the Swedish Elite League system and for the U-18 team in the most recent World Junior Championships. He had six goals, 25 assists and 31 points in 42 games for Djurgardens, and a 0-2--2 line in seven World Junior games.

“He can really skate. One of the better skaters in the draft,” Bruins assistant general manager Scott Bradley said. “Real mobile up the ice. Didn’t have great numbers with the national team, but had great numbers with his junior club. … Internationally, they pulled him back in.”

Boston took Czech forward Jakub Lauko at No. 77 in the third round.
Lauko (6-0, 179) is a left-shot center/wing. He was ranked 20th among European skaters by NHL CSS, and 45th by TSN.

“We’re ecstatic to get a player like this at that point in the draft. Fast. Energy. Plays with a lot of character. Willing to sacrifice … can really shoot the puck,” Bradley said.
