Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke to the media at his year end press conference and he mentioned how David Pastrnak and Ondrej Kase were't fully conditioned for the return to play.

So Pastrnak's conditioning was bad, yet you played him over 21 minutes a game leading all forwards. Okay Butch.
When Donny left him with a one line team for a second consecutive year, what did you expect him to do? Pasta’s what 24 years old? He’s not an old man like DK or Bergy. Had no choice IMO.

Pastrnak's the type of player that could spend a Summer eating chips on the couch, twist his ankle while rolling out of bed at game time, and still be by far the best RW on the team and a top line talent. Doesn't mean he can't be better with better conditioning though.

Yes but at the same time... 88 if it is right, did put his coach in a bad position. Cassidy was already short on the right side and Pastrnak was a no brainer, Cassidy could and still can not have the luxury of not putting 88 on the ice. But it does imo send a bad message to the rest of the team.

So playing him less would have yielded a better result? Orwellian.

Maybe we should have sat him entirely. Coulda won the series.
Just some disconnect between The message “he wasn’t in shape” and the coaching decision to ask more of him physically than anyone. Playing him less would have been understandable if they really thought he wasn’t in game shape.

He’s lucky that way (Pastrnak). Hopefully he can continue developing the training big side of the game as it will add years and years to his career. Might also cut back on the celebration injuries.

It’s also apparent that Cassidy loves McAvoy. Like wants to adopt him lol. For good reason obviously but you can hear it when he speaks what they think of the guy.

No, it wouldn’t have been understandable.

“Hey coach, could you please explain why your Richard Trophy winning winger only played 12 minutes in tonight’s game......”

......”we are trying to ease him back into game shape.”

Que mass hysteria in the Boston media and fan base.

“That kids gassed, keep him out there”

Or think about what it says to Pasta - we’re going to ride you and then call you a slacker...

Many have suggested the younger teams would have an advantage with the RTP for conditioning reasons. So it's a bad look that two 24 year olds in Pastrnak and Kase were not in game shape.

Pastrnak is a franchise player no doubt. But between tripping on the sidewalk last year (if memory serves) and injuring himself during a celly possibly due to being unconditioned, at what point does leadership pull him aside?

It's reminiscent of Toews and Kane when they were young. Kane was a bit of a loose cannon, whose abilities no one questioned. But he needed to mature, like Toews, which he did.

I thought the B's were better later in the series with Lindholm on the PK taking away space from the point men. I was beginning to wonder how many goals would bank in off McAvoy before they adjusted.

The B's lack of finish is frustrating, but there are other lacking fundamentals that are maddening to watch - inability to make simple clears, shots that miss the net (by a lot), poor shot selection, inability to hit empty nets.

Bruins Injuries: Bruce Cassidy Shares End-Of-Season Health Updates - NESN.com

Nothing too surprising in the post-playoff injury updates, except for Cassidy's comment on Wag's injury:

“That’s a different animal. I don’t want to speculate on his.”

What on earth does that mean?
I took it to mean Wagner is a different animal and as such he would need a veterinarian to comment as he just doesn’t have a good enough understanding of his species anatomy.

Yeah, Pasta’s conditioning being bad was so obvious. He was basically effective at one timers and that’s about it.

As others mentioned, the way he was falling over the place and laying on the ice toward the end of the game 5 against Tampa said it all.

I find it concerning that Butch didn't even want to get near Wags' issue. I don't like the sound of it at all.

If your a slacker that's exactly what you've earned
I forget the movie now, but the line ‘the beatings will continue until morale improves’

Kinda fits with the theory here lol. You’ll get in shape or I will ruin you trying

edit maybe it wasn’t a movie. Still fits

We did against Carolina!

Bruins did...but still had an awful time scoring a 5v5 goal.

Jake Debrusk Orr impression goal opened up the floodgates a little. But if Canes were a little smarter... maybe they Tampa us defensively ... though they couldnt score themselves

One of the key difference between the Bruins and TBL was the darn deflections. And I dont agree with Cassidy who states that you cant teach hand eye co ordination

The Ds can practice shooting tipable shots from the point. With the forwards practicing positioning, timing and tipping pucks. From fighting Ds in front of the net. To quickly skating out to a open area ready to tip.
