Are you saying Lou, who is currently 76 years old, is going to leave for greener pastures in 4 years?

How bored are you at work today?
I personally think he's going to retire in 2-3 years. Maybe stay on in some limited/figurehead capacity.

LOL..Im just trying to point out that things are never as they seem in IslesLand -- and they NEVER work out as planned.
If I didn't hold out hope year after year I'd drive my car off a cliff.

Islanders should leave Barclays Center for good after 2018-19 season

'By Chris Botta | Jul 17 | 1:10PM

As the Islanders embark on this uncertain three (or more)-year path to Belmont, they must learn from the John Tavares heartache. They need to control what they can control, and make their organization as attractive - or at least as less unattractive - as possible. They need to eliminate the excuses for someone else to walk out the door.

Beginning with the 2019-20 season, all of their home games must be played at the barn in Nassau County. And the plan to move all of the games to Nassau should be announced weeks before the trade deadline in February 2019...

As a hockey arena, the Barc is awkward. The notion that the move to Brooklyn would result in more media coverage - you know, the "city" and all that - turned out to be false hope. There has been little demand for tickets, with secondary-market tickets for three-quarters of the games going for less than it costs to take the LIRR. The attempts to "Brooklynize" the Islanders in marketing efforts were often cringe-inducing.

It says everything about how the organization feels about the true heart of its fan base that the Islanders are promoting the heck out of its Coliseum ticket packages for the upcoming season, while the Barclays games are more of an after-thought...'

The Point: New Belmont twist, more

'July 23, 2018 3:47 PM (EDT)

The Belmont Park Community Coalition, led by community activist Tammie Williams, has suggested that a new study — funded by state taxpayers and conducted by an organization that the coalition would vet — is necessary to establish a “truly independent assessment of the project.”

But an Empire State Development spokeswoman told The Point that the environmental impact study underway at Belmont already is “an independent analysis.” That process, in which the state or locality chooses the consultants, and developers cover any expenses related to a project they hope to build, is typical for state and local projects like this one.

The Belmont Park development team, which includes Sterling Project Development, the New York Islanders and Oak View Group, put $1 million into an escrow account when they won the bid to build at Belmont. The group will replenish that account as necessary, according to Empire State Development officials. The environmental firm conducting the study, AKRF, was chosen by the state...'

"We need an independent analysis that our group hand picks which inherently means it's not independent! And we stick the taxpayers with the bill to boot!". These people are so completely ridiculous, how can ANYONE take these people seriously?

In all fairness when a state is inviting a developer to develop on state land, there is no such thing as an "independent analysis" only the represented interests of distinct constituencies (the state, Elmont). You can disagree with their rhetoric, but you should also disagree with the notion that any study is independent.

3-5 years hes done with hockey imo. There's no chance in hell he will stay on as a figurehead/any stupid title they come up with. He didn't stay in Jersey, nor Toronto when he wasn't in full control.

State: LIRR evaluating Belmont expansion options

'By Jim Baumbach[email protected]Updated July 25, 2018 1:37 PM (EDT)

The state’s chief business development agency said the Long Island Rail Road is “evaluating existing rail infrastructure” around Belmont Park in an effort to determine how best to increase service to the planned new Islanders arena.

The LIRR study is expected to be completed by the end of September...

Empire State Development officials gave the updated LIRR timeline at a meeting last week with a group of local activists called the Belmont Park Community Coalition. ESD has since posted its presentation from that meeting on its website.

ESD also said its officials and representatives from New York Arena Partners — the name of the Islanders’ Belmont development partners — have met with the LIRR four times since the Islanders group won the development rights at Belmont in December...'

I can't see an outcome where NYAP isn't helping to defray the costs of any rail infrastructure upgrades there.

I recall seeing something previously about potential developers at Aqueduct kicking in big money at Belmont in order to make Aqueduct unnecessary so that the property would become available for development. So maybe that is a source of funding at some point....

Can't believe even Aqueduct is now being swindled so that DOLAN can become our landlord. Wish people would wake up and THINK.

LIRR reviewing Belmont station infrastructure - The Island Now

By Rebecca Klar
-
July 31, 2018

The railroad evaluation will be complete by the end of September, the corporation told activists at the July 18 meeting at the Elmont Park Library.

Tammie Williams, co-organizer of the Belmont Park Community Coalition, said representatives from the Empire State Development Corp. walked out and left activists with questions regarding the train improvements.

They also advised Williams to “stop reaching out to the MTA and LIRR for answers,” and to instead reach out directly to the Empire State Development, she said.

There have also been four public meetings and forums, 12 community tours and smaller community meetings, 11 meetings with the Belmont Community Advisory Committee and elected officials and ongoing communications with elected officials and other government agencies...

Trains currently only run to the station on race days.

Very unprofessional for Williams to storm out of the July 18 meeting
She's grandstanding.

The members of the Belmont Park Community Coalition will not work with anybody including the ESDC because they are painting the entire process as rigged against them due to a corrupt governor. You watch.

Well, the biggest decision they'll have to make is to determine the advantages of rebuilding the wye-junction at Belmont, and installing the required switches to be able to run trains to/from Belmont from the Main Line to the east (Oyster Bay, Hicksville, Port Jeff, Ronkonkoma, Babalon via Bethpage, Speonk) and not have shuttle trains only running back and forth between Jamaica and Belmont.

Then they'll need to determine if they can make use of this added infrastructure M-F as a park-and-ride facility. If the LIRR can runs trains here frequently enough to entice commuters to park, it makes more financial sense for them to increase capacity - even if they need to charge a fee for parking. Leave your car at Belmont in the AM... take the train to the city... take the train from the City to go to the game... Your car is already parked.. Enjoy the game. Drive home.
