Guessing that the Islanders needing a practice facility may be part of the reason behind it.

Why would the Islanders want a practice facility in the Bronx? It would probably cost $25 in tolls just to get to practice.

I believe this has been talked about before the Islanders announced their move to Brooklyn. Not only that, Messier was one of the people supporting this idea.

8 ice surfaces? That's absurd, the operating costs are going to be ridiculous. Hopefully they can sustain it.

Looks very nice.

It was being discussed on prime time sports earlier. Apparently before this project, there are only 7 rinks in NY? Find that hard to believe but this will be a nice addition.

There's not many places to put them unless you go outside the city.

So, if they build one with 8 rinks, that will serve a lot of people.

At this point, the Islanders might as well take the name Americans, since they won't have any real ties to Long Island. As for the neighborhood itself, I hope it spurs gentrification of that area (it's a working-class neighborhood).
