Both teams were recently in the basement and have exceeded expectations. Which core do you think is better going forwards?

Avs have Mack, Landeskog, Rantanen, Kaut, Makar, Girard, Zadorov, Alt, ect...

Sabres have Eichel, Mittelstadt, Skinner (maybe), Reinhart, Dahlin, Risto, Hunwick, ect...

This includes all current roster players + prospect pools + future draft picks (2019 Sens pick)

This is tough because no one knows where the Sens pick is gonna end up, so I am going go with the homer vote.

Tough. Both teams have some really good young talent coming to the fore right now. I’d say the Avs currently because they have that Sens pick on top of theirs but both teams look promising.

Also why the hell did you list alt for the Avs? dudes like 27 and our like #8 dman lol.

The avalanche are going to ne the best team in the west for years to come. Can't say the same for the sabres. The avs have so much youth still to come in kaut, makar, timmins etc. They also have multiple picks and have the cap to sign a panarin/stone/karlsson this summer. The team is going to be scary good.

Avs. They have a fantastic cap situation. The prospect pool is more impressive with Makar leading the way, plus there is the Senators 1st. Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen smokes any line Buffalo throws at them.

Buffalo does have Dahlin and it remains to be seen if Colorado can even get a #1 D.

I think it's the Sabres, but I want it to be the Avs, so I optimistically voted for them.

Yeah, Makar is really our only likely #1 and that's far from a sure thing...although looking very promising atm...and even if he gets there he won't quite reach Dahlin's level; the same way MacK can't quite reach McDavid's level.

Luckily we should be able to counteract not having a top tier #1 with depth given Girard, Barrie & EJ are top pairing caliber guys already; Zadorov is a quality top 4 guy more often than not (he does still start seasons slowly); Cole is a great #5 who can step into the top 4 & successfully deputize in that role; Nemeth is a capable bottom pairing PK-specialist; and we've still got Makar, Meloche & Timmins in the pipeline...all with top 4 (or even top pairing) potential. EJ & Cole may well fall off before their current contracts end; but Girard, Barrie & Zads have a ton of runway left and the 3 young RHDs mean our prospect pool is more talented on the blueline than its ever been.

Still need a 1b C to have the Center depth to win a cup without a top tier #1 blueliner...so we're not banking everything on Makar...but with the Ottawa pick, our cap space and all of our trade assets; that should be doable over the next season or two.

EDIT:
Moving forward I think Sakic is picturing something along the lines of:

Landeskog - MacK - Rantanen
Jost - OTT 1st/Trade/FA - Kaut
Kerfoot - Kamenev - Shvyryov
AJ Greer - Bowers - Compher
( Weiss / Kovalenko / Ranta )

Zadorov - Barrie
Makar - Meloche
Girard - Timmins
( Zhuravlyov )

Grubauer
Francouz
( Annunen / Werner / Shmakov )

+ all our own draft picks.

Had to go with Colorado here, once Makar and Timmins develop that D core is going to be downright scary. To go with Rantanen, Mackinnon, Landeskog, Jost, Kerfoot etc they are going to be so deep in every position.

Going with COL.... I like their Fwds more and i think the depth is better on D at the moment even with BUF having the best potential D player in Dahlin.

This draft - BUF will add 3 1st rounders while COL will have 2 but will likely have the highest touted prospect of the bunch with the Sens pick.

man I think I'd have to go with Buffalo! Either way though I love both teams so hopefully they both enjoy amazing few years coming up (right after the jets win a cup of course)
