Could also mean next calendar year. Someone should try to teach these 18 year old kids to make less ambiguous statements to the media :sarcasm:

I was at the bowling alley and couldn't find anything. :biglaugh: Thanks for checking guys.
Hehe, who knows. Youngstown owns his USHL rights or maybe he plays another year with the CPC. Any disambiguation will probably get cleared up next week at development camp.

Had the pleasure of watching him closely throughout the season. Played in Top 6 for best Junior A club in Eastern Canada in Carleton Place. Huge frame, good skater, good shot. Could play a meaner game but still uses size to his advantage in other ways. Will take on bigger role next season before heading to Penn State for 2017-18.

Didn't see much from Murray. He didn't stand out in any particular way. Long term project.

Any idea where this kid is playing this upcoming season?

Surprising as most D1 commits spend the year before in the USHL to get use to the style of play
It looks like that is the likely scenario now. Probably just a belated update to the CPC website, as now, with exhibition games underway, Murray's not listed on either the active or inactive rosters, while his #21 has also been given away. It does make more sense that he'd move onto USHL competition with a 2017-18 college commitment. Oshawa's training camp starts next week and I don't expect to see him pop up there, though I suppose that's still possible, but I'd expect Youngstown at this point. It won't be PSU either, as their roster's already out (not on it) and classes have begun there.

2 SOG in his USHL debut, as Youngstown lost 5-3 to the NTDP .. couldn't score on Rheaume's son, who is small even for small goalie standards at like 5'7" or 5-8" .. not on-ice for any of the eight goals either .. next games are rematches Friday and Saturday.

At the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth Michigan watching the US NTDP U17 play the Youngstown Phantoms. So far it's 5-0 Youngstown and Murray looks like a man among boys. Has a goal too.

Murray was second star of the game. He's out of place in this league. Should already be at Penn State.

Brett Murray swiped at a rebound of a deflected shot for his first-ever USHL goal Saturday.
Murray also added one assist for his first multi-point game as Youngstown cruised past Team USA U-17 7-1.
Murray goes for points in three straight contests Friday versus Philip Nyberg and the Madison Capitols.

Easy there. The two games this weekend were vs USA U17, aka 2000-births at clearly different developmental stages, and Murray's a 6'5" 210 junior-a standout two years older than that entire team. Maybe when or if he produces in games vs more veteran USHL rosters, you can ponder if he could've carved out a role at PSU vs older players, but this route is still the right choice IMO.

@SabresProspects -

Brett Murray explodes for a five-point night with two goals and three assists as Youngstown cruises past Muskegon 7-4.
Brett Murray - 7 Games Played - 3 Goals - 8 Assists - 11 points.

Aaron Westendorf ‏@USHLAaron -

Brett Murray (@YtownPhantoms) scored a 5-point night. The Buffalo Sabres prospect and Penn State commit has 11 points in 7 games played.

LaxSabre - His first goal last night was a power-play goal.

Maybe I did see something a couple of weeks ago. So far, so good! :)

Still doesn't change the contextual point I was making there either .. 16-y/o vs 18-y/o. ;)

Murray's weekend bumps him up to third in USHL scoring and t-2nd in assists, with 3+8 through 7GP. The first line of Murray-Werbik-A.Esposito was cruising last night and accounted for six of their seven goals, with A.Esposito taking the USHL's goal-scoring lead as well. Beginning to look like Chicago, Des Moines, Waterloo, and Youngstown are the better squads at this early stage. You could probably include Green Bay there too when they're dressing Mittelstadt.

Murray will be joining PSU for the next semester. PSU's 13-1-1 on the year and positioned well for a tournament berth.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Recent early signee and Buffalo Sabres draft pick Brett Murray (Toronto, Ontario) will forgo the remainder of his junior hockey season and join the third ranked Penn State men’s ice hockey team at the start of the new year as announced by Head Coach Guy Gadowsky and team representatives earlier Monday morning.
“At 6-5, Brett is an imposing power forward,” commented Gadowsky. “His ability to both think the game and get up and down the ice will allow him to make a smooth transition to college hockey.”
Murray will wear the #18 once he dresses for the Blue and White who begin their second semester of play on the road in Columbus against the ninth ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on January 6-7, 2017.
