On the trade board people are saying straight up the trade would make sense for both parties involved. I would be all for getting a guy like Connolly into the lineup at the expense of one of our many defensemen.

Thoughts?!

I still think Ellis is Housleys project and isn't going anywhere unless its part of a blockbuster. I just don't see poile ready to get rid of him.

Seeing proposal of Brett Connolly for Ryan Ellis on the trade board... that would make a ton of sense. 2000 pounds of sense. Maybe more.

I'd happily add some minor pieces to that... Brennan, Hali, Blum... probably one of Bartley/Gill/lesser prospect if needed. In fact, I'll be honest and say I'd add more quality if required. Big fan of that guy for several years.

I agree bd. it makes too much sense. I agree that housley was likely brought in for Ellis, but plans need to change when Seth jones falls into your lap.

Even better trade proposal,

We get drouin and Connolly
Lightning get jones and Ellis.

I know, I know, just messin around. Lol.

But around Ellis for Connolly I would think both teams would love it. Is Connolly more expandable after drafting drouin?! I never heard Connolly rumours until just recently.

The bolts drafted a better offensive prospect than connolly when they need D help. We drafted a better defensive prospect than ellis when we needed offensive help. So yeah I think both Connolly and ellis are more expendable and would help balance both prospect pools.

Makes sence, I like this proposal

He's listed at 6'2 and 180 lbs. We get bigger like Poile wants us to get

there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Tampa Bay gives Connolly away at this point. They left him in the A for the full year so that he could grow into his role in the NHL. This was not punishment, this was the development that the youngster needed. He acclimated himself well, as the second leading scorer in Syracuse, and he'll be a key piece to the puzzle in Tampa within the next two seasons. Ellis would be a nice piece for a team looking for a right handed shooting power play specialist, but it's doubtful he's as good a fit with the Bolts as he is with the Preds/Ads.

Value wise, this proposal is bang on. However, i'd have to think TB would feel a little more reluctant to move Connolly after taking their time with him, and it seems to be paying off.

Sadly...Ellis isn't going anywhere.

As this point, we should expect a lot of 1-0 games this coming season.

We have a plethora of defensemen and Poile isn't willing to part with them(Poile says he is but I don't believe him).

Also, Poile shouldn't be surprised that no one will trade for Blum when he literally has no bargaining power. Why trade assets for Blum when he will be a FA in 3 days?

David Poile is nothing if not honest. I believe him when he says he wants to trade a defenseman for scoring help, but I don't think anybody will take any of the defensemen he wants to trade. I don't think teams will be lining up for Ryan Ellis or Hal Gill, and they certainly won't trade any major offensive pieces for them. Our only other trade pieces are Smith, Watson, Ekholm, and Cehlin, maybe Aberg or Leipsic.

Honestly, I'm still stuck on that Blum-for-Greening trade with Ottawa. If we could get a piece like that for Ellis, I'd call that a fair deal; then again, I don't rate Ellis as highly as other teams' fans do on the trade board.

I think everyone will be surprised at how much better our offense will be with a better puck moving defenseman back there.

In retrospect, as weird as is sounds, losing Suter and his puck carrying/outlet pass hurt our offense as much or more than it did our defense.
