Does Seabrook have any incentive to waive his NMC to go from Chicago to a place like Ottawa? Chicago is likely stuck with him.
it was rumored late last season, Seabs would waive his NMC if it was to western Canada..... however his wife does not want to move........ she has mention that already.

We need to clear a roster spot for Boqvist. Willing to swap for another contract ala Lucic for Neal. Make your best offer
Just buy him out the next time the Hawks can do that.

Otherwise, you're stuck because he's unmovable. If the contract isn't enough, the NMC probably seals it.

What kind of asset would it take to dump him in full?

We’re into the two 1st round minimum pick territory here, likely more. I doubt that’s palatable to Chicago.

As usual mouser is spot on.

His NMC complicates.

Then there is the matter of protecting for upcoming exp draft.

So even if you said to Rangers,
we do Seabs at half
we take Staal + Smith
AND
throw you some high end prospect/pick swag

it would likely not be worth it.

Sure, we can, like Chicago, just wait for compliance buyouts to be available, which hopefully only costs $.

But who knows when that will be finalized.
Is it prior to exp draft?
And how many do you get?
Will they be tradeable rights?

Fox, Rykov and couple of others are exempt
Assume we deal Skjei and Staal expires
not counting Deangelo, who we might trade or extend

Trouba, Hajek, Lindgren all have to be protected
only 3 slots.
taking on Seabs will cost, and Hawks would have to pay up front to make that worthwhile

non-starter

try to help NHL get generous agreement on compliance and other buyout parameters with NHLPA

swag ????? i love it. first time i heard that here. well done sir.

btw excellent breakdown. ref to the bold, all we have to do is wait from the Bhawks to realize it will be best to send Seabs to the press box for the duration of the season.

Lucic is a worse contract.

I hate Lucic but as bad as it is it ends sooner so I’d argue that you’re incorrect. Edmonton also retained so the cap it is lower and he’s owed less in real dollars versed the hit.

please explain what I’m missing that makes Seabrooks deal more enticing

I feel so bad about Seabs turning into such a useless plug. Couldnt have happened to a bigger douche canoe.

Can they waive him and have him play in the minors for the rest of his career?

Would they be subject to a cap hit?

He has no value. Is he impossible to trade no but it would be very painful. Even then he has the ultimate trump card no trade and no movement clause.

As was mentioned above, his NMC means he can't be sent to the minors without his own permission. And even if he waived his NMC for that, the cap hit would still be there, diminished by like $1M or so with the buried contract rules. Seabrook's contract is just brutal in every way possible.

i know the Bhawks, due to Seabs contract is trying to find a way to utilize him.

well for the past yr +, he is a failing image of what he used to be. i still would try to find a way for him to be a useful piece. take him off the PK, keep him on part time for the PP. use him 10-15 mins a game and a bottom pairing d-man.

then lets see what the results will be around x-mas time.
