Olli Jokinen for a start is alot more physical, more skilled and just a better alround player. Jokinen did look like a bust, but is one of those rare instances where he turned his career around .... with Mike Keenan no less :biglaugh:.
Jokinen survived the terrible start to his NHL career because he was a fairly effective defensive forward who was good at face-offs. Under Keenan, something clicked and he seems to be getting yet better now.

Brendl is essentially a one-trick pony. Unless he's putting the puck in the back of the net, he's useless.

The thing is, he can't even do that.

I don't think his skill is that great.

He's slow and has poor puckhandling skills. The only skill I see in him is a decent shot and a good-sized frame.

you can say lots about him but this is a joke. :shakehead

He can start averaging 5 goals a game in the AHL and he'll still be a bust with no chance of ever doing anything. He's put up great numbers in the AHL before for short stints, doubtlessly this is another mirage.

The guy has put forth 1% of effort for 2 seconds in a half dozen games in his entire life, and for once that isn't an exaggeration in the least.

Brendl has the worst work ethic of any player -ever-.
He could turn into Gretzky overnight and he won't make an impact.
And unfortunately for him, Brendl has little besides a fantastic shot.

Brendl has worked his way off more teams then I can count... it's impressive enough he's still with San Antonio.

The only time Brendl has ever "hit his stride" is while running towards a hot dog stand during the New York Rangers training camp in 2000.

When he was drafted, he had arguably the best shot since Brett Hull. The shot is still there: the velocity, the accuracy, the release, it's all there. He hasn't developed the other skills to match his overpowering shot.

There's something to be said for the motivating power of fear. It may well be that Pavel realizes that this is his probably his last serious chance to become an NHLer.

Phoenix is rapidly playing themselves out of the playoff hunt, and will likely be jetisoning players before the Olympic break. Brendl will get a call-up, and probably plenty of ice time.
