3 years x $7.5 million. $5 million, $7.5 million, $10 million. *** Note, my speculation.

If true, sounds like Point got what he asked for. Tampa offer 5.66 + 2 million gap = 7.66. He also got his bridge contract.

Even if that's the case though, still a solid contract for the Bolts. $5.66m would have been grand larceny.

I would have been very happy with Marner at 3x$7.5m-$8m.

Wow I don't think Point ever replicates this season, yet he's banking on himself and going for a bridge.

Cap space is limited to go for a long-term deal. If he goes bridge, and has a large third year pay, he will guarantee a high QO requirement. It's a good compromise for the player, and the team, that is strapped for cap.

3 years x $6.9 million AAV

Year 1 $5.7 million
Year 2 $7.5 million
Year 3 $7.5 million

JBB gets the number he wanted in year 1 and Point gets the number he wants in years 2 and 3

Any Cap issues next year or 2 by adding another $7M for a forward? They have a fair amount of RFA/UFA coming up in the next couple years.

Oh hell yeah we gon' get it next year. We've got $14 million right now BEFORE Point's extension and Cernak, Sergachev, Cirelli and Joseph up for new deals. Cernak looks like a legit top 4 at the moment, Joseph and Cirelli are liable to score 15 goals each and Sergachev will possibly score 40 points if he has a good year. We've all but accepted that someone like Palat, Killorn or Johnson is gone next year to accommodate.

Right because, typically, "star" RFAs do not sign bridge deals. Unfortunately, the cap space available for Point would have to be a bridge deal unless he's willing to give a ridiculous discount on a long-term deal. For no other reason than $8.4 Million is all we have available to him right now and that's way too much for a bridge deal and may not be quite enough for a 5-6 year deal for him. We just don't know what the ask is...

A little too high, but not much.

Stamkos cap adjusts to 9.5 x 5, which would scale back to somewhere in the 7.5-8.5 x 3 range
Panarin cap adjusts to 6.7 x 2, which would need to be scaled up a year and up for a more valuable player

Mike Johnson ion Leafs Lunch thinks 6.9(pure speculation) and Bobby Mac said he thinks Point tries to push it to 7 million with TB wanting 6.4 to under 7. But said they won't squabble too much since it gives them a cheaper 3 year deal regardless.
