Brayden Point and TBL Cap Hit; 2019-20

Clearly TBL has been the best regular season team this year. This is partly due to a stacked lineup; partly due to brilliant coaching. I wanted to pose a question about their Cap Hit situation next year. They already have 8 forwards, each with 4M+ charged towards the Cap next year. Brayden Point is their 2nd/3rd best player and has not had a bad season in his 3 yrs in the NHL -- yet, he is coming off the his ELC this year.
My question to you guys are:
How much does he get signed (Note: he is an RFA w/o arbitration)?
Who would you trade away to make cap space for Point?

He’s probably getting 10m-11m and that’s taking a discount. He will probably sign for 8 years at that price.

Callahan is the one they need to find a way to get rid of even though he has a NTC, that would give them a lot more cap room to play with.

At some point they are going to run out of money and will have to trade a big salary away.

Callahan comes off after next season but then they have to resign Sergachev, Cernak, Cirelli and Vasilevskiy.

Next season they have to sign another 2 Dmen as their 3 oldest Dmen come off the books, maybe 2 of them return and Cal Foote is ready for NHL time?

They already have 50 million for next year before Point resigns, basically 48 million for 8 guys and 2 guys on the last year of their ELC's.

They have 16 million for 4 Dmen, 14 million for their big 2 guys and sergachev and Cernak who will have to resign after next season.

Let's say Point resigns for 8 million per and Callaghan comes off the books then they will have around 59 million for 10 guys going into the 19-20 offseason and needing to resign at least 4 more pretty key guys.

At some point Miller and or Johnson will need to be traded.

Good thing Mitchell Stephens is developing nicely as just like in Toronto there are lots of moving parts and things might get messy as their is on;y so much money to go around.

Point will sign 8.5M for 8 years. Followed by the huge "explosion" on Toronto home board :sarcasm:

Absolutely no way that happens. 10m for 8 is a MASSIVE discount. Believe me the Leafs boards will blow up from 10m for 8 lol.

He's taking the Tampa discount:
ALL YEAR Disney pass
3 alligators
Full access to Steven Stamkos' ketchup chip pantry
$18 an hour which is great due to Florida's low cost of living and taxes
Lmao. He actually promised that if they ever win the cup, he'll finally crack open that vintage bag of '87 ruffled Heinz with the boys. The man is an aficionado.

I think he will be signed for 5 years for more of a rfa type contract that we have seen before compared to the contract of Matthews for example. Could see him get 8-9 ish for 5 years or a little longer. 4 years and Palats contract is done, 5 and Palat and Killorns are done so it makes sense in terms of cap structure.

Little lower percentage than Stammer got out of his ELC which was 11,66% of the cap. Matthews got 14,63% of the cap both contracts 5 years. Its pretty crazy that Matthews got that much more than Stamkos on the same length out of their ELC...

He wont sign more than Stammer or Kucherov guarenteed... Sorry to burst rival team fans bubbles but he isnt gonna do what other certain young players are doing/gonna be doing to their team.

If Tampa needs cap space, the only two big money players that can be traded are Miller and Gourde (with his new contract). Highly doubtful the NTC players Johnson, Palat, Callagahan and Killorn would waive their NTCs.

6 years x $7,677,500 for Brayden Point is a fair deal. Same CH% as Gaudreau when he signed at a higher PPG level.
