It clears 4 more years of $8m caphit and saves them over $20m in real cash.Great for us, but is that really fair? Is the RJ contract that bad?
I don’t even know if I’d do it.

To drive their Zamboni?Oilers might be looking at bringing in Sutter ....

What about Sutter for that Tyler Benson kid?Canucks: Healthy UFA Brandon Sutter wants to stay but is also drawing trade buzz | The Province
Retain 50% and get the highest draft pick we can. Free if they take Roussel or Beagle too.
Or a 7th round pick or a package of expired cheeseWhat about Sutter for that Tyler Benson kid?
Don't tempt Jimbo....his track record in acquiring another team's stagnating or declining prospects is beyond bad. What about Sutter for that Tyler Benson kid?

That’s the Leafs; they need a back up goalie. To drive their Zamboni?
I think you mean we have to give up a pick to dump him quick.Has two points in fifteen games since his games vs OttawAHL

Drance suggested that they need to launder the money by paying a team a late pick to eat money.I think you mean we have to give up a pick to dump him quick.
Brandon Sutter has at least a legit excuse imho (multiple injuries) that have had a real impact on his performance. Had at least one solid season for us. Unlike some other stiffs on the payroll (or were on the payroll).
His body can no longer clear what his brain is telling it to cash.He says he feels great and the injuries are behind him. Completely healthy and on pace for 0 assists.
No more than 50% of any player’s contract can be retained, no matter how many teams are retaining. I’m surprised a hockey journalist would overlook this.Drance suggested that they need to launder the money by paying a team a late pick to eat money.
Canucks retain 50%, trade to team Y who then retains 50% and flips to team X.
Some team basically gets a free late pick, canucks upgrade a few rounds in the draft, and some team gets a $1MM Brandon Sutter.
He also said that we haven’t seen management here make a deal that takes creativity like that in seven years
Okay, I might have perceived it wrong and misunderstood what he said. Didn’t know that was a rule.No more than 50% of any player’s contract can be retained, no matter how many teams are retaining. I’m surprised a hockey journalist would overlook this.
As many as two teams can retain on the same contract. It it possible he was just talking about that?Okay, I might have perceived it wrong and misunderstood what he said. Didn’t know that was a rule.
Maybe he didn’t mean that but that’s definitely how I perceived it.
