Not sure if there's already a thread, but I'm curious to know what Chicago Blackhawks fan think of Brandon Saad.

He was just demoted to the 4th line today and coming of 35 pts season with 2 years (+1 this year) at 6M per.

Would they be willing to move him? If so, what for? What position would the be looking for? Futures? Help now?

Value of Saad? Deck of cards??? :) - seriously though, jokes aside.

I wouldn't give Jokiharju for anything at the moment,
not even if Hawks could unload Saad + get Nylander.

If someone would want a take gander at Saad...(big if) i'd want a pick or maybe two.

hard to gauge Saad's value. 26 years old (at end of Oct), 6M cap hit with 36 pts in his past 86 games. Was a 50+ pt guy the 3 years prior though. Kind of similar to Patches who was coming off a down year but was a perennial 30 goal player. Patches was 3 years older though but less of a contract. Id assume this thread will be filled with mostly low-ball offers

What was the cause of Saad's weak numbers last season? Worst of his career.

Saad's a weird case right now. His best game came last night, but getting scored on while he was on the ice in OT probably helped him get 4th line duties.

So do the Hawks sell low on him by trading him now, or are they better off keeping him and hoping he finds his game again. He is only a year removed from a 53pt season where almost all of those points came at even strength.

Unless the price is right, I think we should keep him for now. Though that Drouin/Scherbak deal posted above is enticing.

Too early to trade Beaudin. I'd trade Krys and/or Forsling.

The defense was atrocious at moving the puck last year.
The power play scheme was terrible (all perimeter which doesnt benefit saad because he needs to get inside the dots)
Toews was really bad last year and was not creating opportunities for his line and only ran cycles down low and on the half wall
Saad had a career low shooting percentage year
The other Saad/Toews linemate for most of the year was a revolving door of Hinostroza, Panik, Duclair (none of which resemble anything close to a top line player)

I'd offer Maatta and Hagelin from the Penguins for Saad and see where the discussion would go beyond that. If that isn't even remotely close I apologize, I'm not sure how to gauge Saad's value right now.

Saad is an odd case. Back when he was a Hawk before people/announcers/writers were calling him things like "man-child" and "hossa-lite." He was a beast at puck pursuit, getting in/to/around the net, and he was reliable on the cycle.

Now, even the games he's tried hard at so far he's been: good at getting to the net but not very lucky cashing in, his puck pursuit has been "meh" and he's really giving up the puck on the cycle.

IMO, he's not playing up to his potential as a power forward. He has the skills/size/strength but gives up on plays too early. When he puts in his full effort he has a really good shift here and there.

Not sure where I'd put his value, probably better to see if the Hawks ever find a way to light a fire under his rear. We really need a good two way top six power forward type with some size/strength, lol. I'm really sick of watching Saad lose board battles while 5'7" DeBrincat keeps winning'em.

That is probably close to his actual value as of right now.

Scoring depth on the wings. I think once Forsling and Murphy are back, the defence will be fine.

It's one hell of a slump. I'd stick with him from the Chicago perspective. Saad just needs confidence, though building that up is not going to be easy.

I'd want him back in Columbus for sure, except he's proven to be a little delicate about criticism, so it's risky to put him back in front of Torts.

Interestingly, Saad's best year 5v5 was with Alex Wennberg two years ago. Neither guy has much going offensively these days. I wonder if they would be good reunited. And if so, on which team (probably Chicago, given that both have Torts issues)?

Maata would fill a need but not sure he’s a top 4 guy anymore. If he is then its a fair deal. Haglin can be potentially flipped if they’re not in the a playoff spot.

1 year at $4 million for Maatta, I think like 4 or 5 years at $4.083 million for Maatta. Maatta is signed long term, that's the more important part.

So why is he demoted this year?

edit: what I mean to say is that your list here is hinting at "it wasn't his fault"... which I don't think is accurate at all
