I'm going to toss this out here... mainly because I've been a pretty big Carlo critic over the past few seasons.

I think he's looking very, very good and has looked good ever since roughly the 60 game mark last season. He's been aggressive, he's been getting his hands more dirty than usual and in turn, has looked better and more confident defensively. If he can keep his game simple, not be afraid to clear the crease and stand tall, use that 6'5'' frame and not let guys crash the net as easily, he will be a damn good one. So far I'm happy to be eating crow on this one.

All that said, he may never score a goal ever again.

He does have some offensive stills though. That pass to Debrusk on the rush was a thing of beauty.

6 goals as a rookie, maybe he’ll figure out how to shoot again lol

Hmmm. Just like last year, McAvoy went down and Carlo stepped up. I hope he keeps this up when McAvoy returns.

Perfect scenario post Chara is Carlo finds another skilled guy capable of first pairing duties to play with and essentially replaces Chara as the stay at home solid presence. Urho maybe.

2nd pairing becomes McAvoy taking advantage of easier matchups and developing his offense with whomever.

FWIW I did not mind the Kampfer-Urho 3rd pairing tonight. Great pass to Bergy in the crease by Kampfer.

We might be talking about locking up the wrong D man right now before the price goes up. Since Carlo isn't a PP wizard his cap hit will never be ginormous but if you can get him to sign for 6-8 years at Moore money and have him cost controlled for pretty much the rest of his 20s I'd do it in a second. Of course my position is lets just sign them both ASAP:hockey:.

All the more reason to be patient with young players, especially defenseman. When you have a kid with his size, mobility and potential, you coach and wait until he develops the confidence in his abilities to take on bigger roles.

As the saying goes, you can't teach size and skill. So you work with his psyche to bring out that talent.

He’s the MVP so far the way he’s controlling games. How much better can he get? He’s exactly the type of defenseman the team needs post Chara. It’s like watching Boychuk start out but with Carlo I think he has a higher ceiling, he’s playing like a legit top pairing player right now.

I had had a feeling that he was going to be one of those guys who peaked early and plateaued. But this season, he's just at another level compared to his last two. Right now we have a defensive stud, if he can develop even a little bit of offense...

A perfect example of why you stick with d-men with great potential even if they are not immediately impressive. With rare exception it takes them several years to develop. I don't know what Carlo's offensive ceiling is (he's trying to be more offensive this season, so it's a start), but I think he still has a good way to go before he hits his defensive ceiling. He can still get stronger and faster, and with those things more physical and intimidating. Like anyone else he can still play smarter. One of my favorite ever Bruins' draft night picks, and he has not disappointed. Carlo will be a rock on the Bruins' top 4 for many years as long as he stays healthy and the Bs are not stupid enough to trade him.
