My point is it’s rare for a 19 year old to come into the league as a defenseman and play physical and effective. One example from over 20 years ago. That’s why I think it’s short sighted to think Carlo can’t improve or doesn’t want to play physical.

Actually they’re both tall so that means they’re exactly alike.

In Carlo’s rookie year he had almost as many points as Gill’s best. Gill didn’t even play an NHL game until 22. But yeah, Carlo = Hal Gill.

both big, stay at home, non-physical defensemen.

one was suited for the clutch and grab time (gill) the other for current times, skating, (carlo).

Carlo, like Gill, has yet to shown that he's anything more than a second pair d-men that you don't notice much on the ice.

solid, steady, dependable, reliable.

Gill never showed in his career any type of take charge attitude, anything impactful, just went about his business.

So far Carlo has showed the same. He's young and who knows if he will become assertive or dominant in any aspect of the game, but personality is personality.

so yeah, so far, its a fair comparison.

If you think it’s fair to compare a guy that played over 1100 NHL games to Carlo who’s played just over 150, all played at a younger age than Gill was when he broke into the league, then I just disagree.

They’re completely different types of defenseman that both happen to be big and good defensively.

different type of defense from different eras who on the ice so far are relatively the same.

as I said, the difference being one was great at the clutch and grab/interference era, and the other is very good at the skating and mobility in the skating era.

I think I also pointed out the age thing.

think I also pointed out Carlo still has room to grow.

I also think pointing out mentality/personality/impact is pretty fair game.

and in that that regard, they are both very similar.

big guys who don't use their size and aren't very physical, neither very flashy, neither very assertive.

they just quietly go about doing their job, that being one of a defensive d-man.

whats wrong with that?

I think the physical aspect of Carlo’s game, while fair up to a certain point last year, has a great chance of changing this year. He was playing physical at the end of last year. I just think that comparison won’t age well.

wasn't meant to age well.

I'd like to see him develop his game more like everyone else.

but there is the very real possibility that what you see is what you get.

and even then, I'd be pretty happy with what he is.

Ha I was just ball busting ....

It’s extremly rare but McLaren was a beast as a 19 year old and I just had to point it out.

I was too young to witness McLaren. Mcavoy is the only player I’ve seen jump in at 19 and play like a man. If every 19 year old prospect was yoked it probably wouldn’t be so rare lol

Carlo aiming for healthy season with Bruins

"I want to improve a lot of things in my game," Carlo said. "I think every player in this locker room is looking to do that, especially the younger guys. … For myself, I think just playing with confidence, playing a little bit of a grittier style, and just believing in myself is the biggest thing I can do right now.

"From my experience in the NHL so far, it's been two years where I've been up in the press box watching the playoffs," Carlo said after Bruins captain's practice at Warrior Ice Arena on Thursday. "It's really hard for me and overall I just want to put that past me, focus on this next year, because I'm really damn excited about what's going forward. I'm here and feeling well."

Great game, love watching Carlo develop into a stud d-man

But someone please get me a gif or video of him falling on his ass trying to score an empty netter
