Well two things, 1st AP is a RD and so is MacAvoy. 2nd your going to need the extra cap space if you want to also address the 2nd line winger thing and sign RFA's. Carlo will need a new contract after next season and will likely command in the 4/5 per season range which the Bruins won't be able to afford.

Carlo had a bad playoff run. Considering where he was during the season ( one of the better shutdown D in the league ) and what the world went thru, he deserves a mea culpa.

I think too many are wishing he was something he isn't. Being overtly physical just isn't in his nature. He CAN be physical, but he uses more of a smothering style of D to shutdown the other team. He's got high defensive IQ, uses his stick well, and plays his gaps better than anyone else on the team.

There's still room for improvement in his overall game, but Carlo should be a part of this defense long term. He's just too good at what he does when he's on his game.

You know who has similar size and similar numbers as that and is considered one of the best physically imposing, shut down defensmen in the league? Colton Parayko.

I agree with the numbers aspect. However just from the eye test I think Parayko is more physically imposing and offers more offensively.

Carlo just wasn’t ready for the return to hockey. I doubt he worked out like he should have. There’s no doubt he plays better. He should be part of this team going forward. He still has some growing to do which is good for the D.

eh, I'm never going to confuse Parayko with Scott Stevens...At least CP contributes a lot offensively as well and fits perfect as a 2 RHD

Carlo is a modern day less tough Hal Gill at this point. Maybe he can get to Boychuk status one day, or just be a more talented less tough Kevan Miller.

Agreed. Carlo is neither physically imposing or shut down IMO. Tampa made him look foolish.

TBF, everyone made Carlo look foolish in the return to play. Himself included.

Agreed offensively, disagree on the physically imposing part. Both use their size in a less than physically overt way to shut down forwards. Stick work, gap control, not giving forwards room to work... both Parayko and Carlo work the defensive zone in a very similar fashion.

Gill was a below average skater who didn't break into the NHL until he was older than Carlo currently is. He already has 300 games under his belt.

I hope we don't eff up the extremely obvious use Gryzlyk EXACTLY like Krug was used move we need to do next year. It makes so much sense in all facets and is so obvious. Particularly to help Carlo take another step.

But hes already had an excellent 4 round Playoff run.

Krug was worse. I don't really even like Krug on the PP anymore staying out there for 100 seconds without that good a shot and being predictable with the passing.

Pasta and Carlo came back from the break out of shape their both young and learning .

The whole team didn't look up to speed . Carlo and Pasta will be back in shape the start of the season whenever that is.

Neither are part of the B's problem.

Shut down D is what wins SC,s

Look at Carlo's stats He's one of the best and he's 23 yo. He's been playing on the top 4 since was 21

I don't get trading Carlo at all.

Everyone’s mind made up about this kid because he was out of shape. This time last year he was an great young player. He and other under estimated play coming back.

I don't think he was out of shape. It was said he put on 5 pounds of muscle. I think that 5 pounds caused his balance to be out of wack which is what caused the rest of his game to look like shit.

I don’t move him unless they sign PA. Which is very unlikely.

    My Predictions

The bruins will sign Hall, yes they will overpay a little.

    The bruins will sign Dillon

The bruins will trade Bjork or Kase in a package with Moore for less but will dump JM’s contract.

Krug rights we’ll be traded off for a garbage draft pick.

Rumors that will be talked about but will not happen. Carlo, Debrusk, Rask, DK . If I picked one who possibly could go with a gun pointed at me I say Debrusk.. but why!

    Chara won’t be brought back.

Why Brandon Carlo should thrive as Bruins' new shutdown ace in 2021 & beyond | Boston Sports Journal

Stunned Carlo ranked 1 in 5x5 Per 60 minutes out of 87 qualifying defenseman in 2018-19 and top 10 last year

All the more reason to put Lauzon with him and shut opponents down

the 6’3” Lauzon can handle this - he is a tough kid and looks like he’s having fun out there

    per Conor Ryan article

The 2018-19 season was a breakthrough campaign for Carlo when it came to being rewarded for his dug-in, defensive talents. Among the 87 NHL defensemen that logged at least 1,200 5v5 minutes in 2018-19, Carlo ranked first overall in goals against per 60 minutes of play with a rate of 1.48. Other defensive stalwarts such as Colton Parayko, and JohnKlingberg ranked third and fourth in the same category.
The following campaign only featured a slight dip in those lofty numbers, with his 5v5 GA/60 rate of 1.75 ranking 10th overall among the 197 D-men with 500 minutes of ice time logged.

There's some on the board that are down on him after a poor playoff showing. But Carlo has been an elite defensive dman the past couple of seasons.

I like the idea of Lauzon -- Carlo, but if Zboril makes the team, I think Carlo would be a good partner for him ( did well with Didider, a stay at home, steady and calm type in Providence ) with a Lauzon -- Clifton/Miller pairing as the third.

I really do want to see Lauzon take the next step in his progression and replace some of the PK and last few shifts/late game lead minutes that Chara would get.

There's lots of reasons why Carlo is one of the young bright spots on the Bruins and if I see one more BS post about him not being any good or " overrated ", I'm gonna flip my shit.

In the investment world they speak of avoiding recency bias, i.e. basing a decision on a stock or fund based solely on it's most recent performance. Brandon Carlo had a sub par playoff. He had a very solid pre-covid season. I believe in the long run he will be like a solid dividend paying stock. Nothing glamorous, but he was one tough hombre to play against during the regular season. I'll base my opinion on those five months, not the five weeks of summer school. He will be counted on bigly post-Chara.

In three or four years, I'm hoping Hanifin can finally stop being disappointing and change his name to Jay Bouwmeester and have a solid, unspectacular late career.

And that would be fine on the Bruins blue line. I am just not interested in giving Carlo up for him and making a flaming gap on the right side instead of having one on the left.
