The only reason Vinik getting a loan gets any mention is that it involves the team. It's a business move to build wealth. I don't get how he's supposed to have a lot of money without ever taking (controlled and informed) risks.

The spokesperson statement reads as overly-crafted, almost like a pitch, which isn't helping.

Water Street is going to have to deal with the inevitable electric scooter issue. Has anything been done yet where if you have a helmet, you can unlock the scooter's speed? Maybe have a sticker that goes onto the helmet (that you buy from the app) that has to be scanned every time you ride. You can still ride without a helmet, but the speed is limited.
Don't know why you'd want to go any faster - you can eat shit pretty badly on these things as-is, and FDOT is going to be making changes sooner than later regarding people drinking and riding them. There have been more than a few injuries already.

There will also be legislation coming, probably at the city or county level (if subsidiarity is respected) that will result in exclusive contracts between cities and scooter companies.

Don't doubt it. I love the idea, but it needs a little more work. They're a wonderful way to get around though.

TB taking sides a bit with its association with the NWHL. Dani Rylan will also be in Orlando next month for a Lightning/Solar Bears hosted Girls Hockey Day. She's got the Lightning connection, but it's also the league that 200 players promised to boycott, and Twitter may not be kind to the TBL.

Maybe the TB-Orlando-Lakeland-Jacksonville-Kissimmee mini-league is real. :sarcasm:

Is it really taking a side just to work on outreach?

Greenwise is probably a good fit here. I don't have a Greenwise store near me, but my preferred Publix is gradually becoming more oriented towards organic and clean ingredients. It's a bit more expensive, but at least my logic is that if you pay upfront, you aren't paying later medical bills.

The additives and synthetic stuff in food sabotage your ability to lose weight. Then you can keep buying exercise equipment, gym memberships, personal trainers, and apparently need several hours of exercise each day to overcome spending .40 less on a can of beans.

When it opens in 2021, expect something similar to the GreenWise Market that opened last October in Tallahassee. A response to niche specialty markets like Lucky's and Sprouts, the Tallahassee store is built around a grocery-meets-restaurant approach that doesn't include Publix subs or fried chicken
Bankrupt in 3 months.

but
The store also will be about 8/10ths of a mile south of a Publix being built in the base of the Channel Club apartment tower at Meridian Avenue and Twiggs Street, and about 7/10ths of a mile east of a Publix just across the Hillsborough River from the Tampa Convention Center.

Currently visiting Asheville N.C., really cool city, young, artsy, vibrant and affordable. Sadly it feels pretty much the exact opposite of almost every city in Florida.

For now. Bringing in lots of silicon valley money and educated people does that. We'll see if they end up shitting up the housing market and prices though, i've had a few offers in the research triangle and property is already getting a little crazy.

I found out about credit-building loans yesterday. The only place that seems to offer them to everyone online is a site called selflender (dot com - no link because it's not an endorsement). This is both an underdeveloped market, as well as probably a useful one figuring that WST will hopefully be full of young people with good credit (in order to rent).

A company like this would also be a possible WST tenant themselves with its tech/banking focus.

edit: Mr. Vinik has USF connections, so connecting a credit building company with those students is a possibility, although it shouldn't be done in a way that will burn any bridges. Sponsor the football team or whatever.

You could have a USF student at 18 sign up for the WST associated credit builder, take out loans each year (in addition to responsible credit card usage) and have some very good credit history by the time they're ready to move to WST to attend med school.

It's an easy pitch. "Dream of living downtown? Start here at _____.com"

Don't idolize him too much. He has been a pretty decent dude, but don't forget that the same people are taking tax money to build downtown, enhance a sporting venue at the cost of childrens schools, public works, and more.

Can't speak to the downtown development stuff, but the 2011-2013, $62 million renovation to the publicly owned Amalie Arena was privately funded by Vinik.

By far Mr. Vinik has been the best sports owner for the lightning ever and the best sports owner in Tampa Bay.

Schools also should be fine in the long-haul. Funding coming from the state of Florida should be the same in the meantime, while the increased real estate values will raise more in property taxes on the local level.
