I would actually love this. Its a nutty idea but my friends and I have had a theory for a while that some teams are better off without a coach because of how they ask certain players to play and it would be a lot more of a meritocracy than how most coaches run things.

Have a vote in the room to appoint a captain and let him have final say on things and let him appoint a player or two to be in charge of special teams units.
