On last week’s 31 Thoughts Podcast, both Friedman and Marek were emphatic that Boston was highly interested in OEL before he re-signed and stated that Boston was ready to make a very large offer if he hit UFA. They then speculated that Boston might have interest in OEL now that he’s on the trade market.

On today’s episode, they again reiterated that they think Boston is a “Big OEL team”.

I found this interesting. Both hosts seemed very confident about all of this and agreed with eachother.

Didn’t Can Neely just say the B’s management has to take a very hard look on where their team is at, and if they are still able to compete for a Cup? From his comments it sounds like they are more interested in rebuilding, than adding OEL.

Well the lineup needs a major shake.

Krug is likely leaving,
Chara in a year latest, possibly this summer if they could pull this off.

Adds skill& size to the LD side, problem is it would mean yet again moving forward without addressing the damm top6

Krug is 100% gone but did not expect Boston to be in on OEL. I think we still need 2RW like we did for past 5 seasons. But OEL-McAvoy does sound great.

Pasta 24
McAvoy 22
Carlo 23
DeBrusk 23
Coyle 28
Studnicka 21

Throw in OEL 29y and a u30 forward and why would the window be 1-3 years?
The roster as is build today won't compete, with aggressive offseason hell yeah

If you can add quality u30 players wouldn't you be keeping the window open for longer?

Agreed. People are a little too aggressive with "windows" around here.

If you start next season with that roster + OEL, you're in good shape for years.

I am intrigued by the prospect of seeing what OEL can do on a different team.
Could end up being a really solid addition.

IMO Boston only problem is how old their C depth is. You have a 35 years old #1 who should stop performing in 1-2 years, and a #2c at 34 years old.
their W and D depth is young enough, but they really need to draft or trade for a young center so he can learn Bergeron's game right now.

Just curious, why is Krug gone? Surely if you are willing to give OEL 8.25 you could give Krug that

Just pointing out what Neely said. He was very vocal about having a team that can win the Cup. Chara is 43, and Krug is gone. Top two centres are 35, and Marchand is 32. The cost to acquire OEL might take away the chance for a speedy and effective rebuild. Neely said the team had to make some “brutally” hard choices.

Why should it mean full tear down?

They have 2 franchise players 24 or younger.
Maybe they realize the team as is isn’t good enough and need new players?

Letting Krug go, letting Chara go even though he wants to be back could be seem as tough choices.
Those 2 out and OEL to replace.

You don’t pay 1st pair money to pp specialist who needs to be sheltered 5on5

It still lacks 1 quality forward, but for sure would be an elite regular season team

I think it lacks the hardest type of forward to find, that's the problem. Unless Studnicka can be that guy, which is possible. I don't think you want Coyle as your best C U30, though.

Who plays centre in two years? Bergeron and Krejci play a lot of key minutes. I think Neely is pointing out the Bruins want to be a Cup level team, and they are not be an OEL addition from beating the other top teams. Neely imo is pretty much telling the Bruin fans the team is looking hard at rebuilding. I agree, that rebuild would be around Pasta and MacAvoy, which speeds things up. But imagine trading future assets (prospects and picks) for OEL, when Neely believes they need to rebuild around the young guys. It’s just not a move h3 would even consider.
