Depending on how much avoiding people & festivities I can do tomorrow there may be one more book to rank.

I want to go through the list again but right now I have 3 books that stand out to me as clearly better than the others.

Basically it’s Michael Lewis swooning about the federal government - all the things it does that no one thinks twice about & what is at stake to be lost. Great book. Only 127 pages , so no big commitment.

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin--I was staring at the attractive new paperback version in a book store and thinking, "Oh, I never read that"--followed then by "Does that make me a moron?" and then by "Better not take any chances."

Good read for fans/collectors.. the relatively obscure 8os syndicated strip (inspired by the TV series). I read that the strip was only carried by a handful of papers in the US. The book editor explains there are about a month's worth of original strips missing, they were too difficult to locate.
Heavy, large format hardcover.. I'm digging it.

Just going to crack into this book. It is part of the Red Rising series of novels. Just an enjoyable series and one of the better sci-fi / space operas I have read.

Impressive list . Good job ! I like the idea of branching out from different countries and am planning to do the same myself for 2019. Do you plan on reading another 100 this year?

Here’s a couple I found that may be of interest to you :

Komo - Srdan Valjerevic (Eastern Europe)
Death in the Andes - Mario Vargas Llosa (Peru)

And if you want some Mexican Noir , The Mongolian Conspiracy by Rafael Bernal was excellent.

    Cheers.

Feel free to throw some my way as well.

100 books is a pretty good amount for me so that'll be my target again next year. Thanks for the suggestions. Llosa has been on my to read list for a while, I'll try to hunt down a copy of that. The Mongolian Conspiracy doesn't get released here to May but I'll definitely be looking for it in the summer. Can't find any English translations of Komo yet.

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata was more highly regarded by reviewers than by me. It's a quick read too even if it doesn't particularly take you. I really enjoyed Marlena by Julie Buntin too, which I only came across because I read a review of Cherry by her.

I know you've added it to your list but I strongly recommend We by Yevgeni Zamyatin.

I liked it but it felt like it was really reaching to be quirky and ended up feeling it was very disposable. Which I suppose is appropriate enough.

It was pretty good. It was basically little tidbits taken from his books or interviews or letters he’d written to people about writing. If you’re a fan of Hemingway you’ll like it.
