another one of those classic goodenow responses

"shadup, you dont know what you are talking about, Go blame Gary, we are"

If only Goodenow was a goalie, the other teams would have many scoring chances due to all of the DEFLECTION he does.

So.... using Goodenows logic.... more than half of the NHLPA membership has no understanding of the actual issues because they haven't been present in the negotiations.
I guess that explains why so many of the players think there will be a better deal as time goes on. :amazed:

Half is a overstatement of epic proportions for the number of players that are in the know-how of the labor dispute.

30 player reps + 1 president = 31/730 (0.042%)

Four-tenths of a percentage are directly involved in the process.

It's no more about population like it used to & even with a 1-side owner CBA won't change that.

Ask yourself this :

1- Do you have the support of over 100 companies willing to pay 100,000$ to 250,000$ for LUXURY BOXES ?

Hamilton ? don't think so
Winnipeg ? don't think so
Quebec ? nice city but don't so

2- Do you have the support of over 10,000 fans WILLING to pay 100$+ for the best tickets in town ?

Hamilton ? IF the AHL tickets is not a sold-out , how can you expect to get 10,000 fans @ 100$ piece ?

Winnipeg ? Same thing.

Québec ? When the Nordiques was there the best ticket was 45-50$ bucks ! Now they are around 100-150$ ! Sorry next !

3- Do you have the support of the town & the government to get a super ARENA ?

Hamilton & Quebec ? Sorry we're not in the U.S ! No one will give money & tax exemption for a hockey team with the perception that it's all for ''cry baby millionaires'' & ''multi-billionnaires owners''

Winnipeg got their new ARENA & I don't know how many LUXURY BOXES they have inside.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry but bottom line is that Nashville, Columbus, Atlanta got better markets today even if they have LESS ''DIE HARD'' fans today.

People need to give them TIME !!! St-Louis sure was not a ''HOCKEY MARKET'' in 1969 when they got their franchise. It's not 5-6 years of attendance that you can project if a market is suitable for hockey !

Since the average ticket price was $41.56 last season lets say that in HAM,WIN,QC it is $40 X 18,000(seats) X 41(games) = $29,520,000

With a salary cap between $25-$35 million all of those cities are fiscally viable for a NHL team.

$100 and $300 are ridiculous ticket prices in any market

Divide the seating into 5 cost areas for the above Canadian cities

low($20)
low-medium($30)
medium($40)
medium-high($50)
high($60)

100 luxury boxes @ $100,000 might not be possible, but 100 @ $25,000-$50,000 would.

Add concessions, advertising, TV contracts, merchandise... and you are looking at a net of $40-$50 million.

Winnipeg already has a new stadium so it should not be a problem.

Quebec City could have a new stadium built tomorrow with federal taxpayers dollars(they might even pay it back, no bets on that)

Hamilton could just get a US parent company(most of the US’s Canadian HQ’s are in Ontario) to build the new stadium for them.

Bob Clarke was a great player. As a human being, and a managment type he is a brain dead loser. The man played too long without a helmet and now speaks with the wisdom of a four year old. He is a moron and a complete idiot. Having said that, anyone who believes or agrees with this shmuk would have to be in the same boat.

I agree with your statement, but 31 devided by 730 is 4.2%... not 0.042%. Sorry.

0.042% of 730 members is 0.30 members (?), or about the equivament of P-M Bouchard.

Clarke is a GM, NOT an owner. He executes player transactions based on what the team's (supposed) needs are. Snider is the one that pushes the cash flow in Philly. As much as I enjoy watching Clarke spin webs of self-deceit, I have to give more credit to Snider for helping the salaries skyrocket.

If you want to get technical, then Brian Roberts is actually the one who pushes the cash flow in Philadelphia. But let me play devil's advocate here for a minute. John LeClair was awarded $9M from an arbitrator. Coming off four straight 40G+ seasons, are you going to walk away from that? The John LeClair contract is easy to scoff at in hindsight. Chris Gratton... well that's a different story.

Goodenow responded by saying Clarke had no idea what he was talking about.

"If Bob had been present in these negotiations, as he was in the past, he would have some understanding of the actual issues involved," the executive director of the NHL Players' Association told The Canadian Press in an e-mail. "I encourage him to attend in the future...

So.... using Goodenows logic.... more than half of the NHLPA membership has no understanding of the actual issues because they haven't been present in the negotiations.

My reading was yet another attempt to divide the owners. Big and small markets. He is saying in a backhanded way that the owners are keeping those big market teams in the dark because obviously they would be for the players position if he could only get them to the table. They are far to stupid to understand the issues on their own.

Not the first time that he has made a statement regarding the big market teams and saying that they have more of an interest with the players. He made one far more explicit right after the talks broke down last wednesday.

I would say it's been pretty obvious for a while that both sides are breaking out the wedge & mallet.

The owners trying to split Goodenow and his executive council from the silent majority of the NHLPA, and the players trying to split Bettman from the big money teams.

IMO both sides have had limited success, but I would say the players will have a harder time fixing theirs. I'm not saying they can't fix it, but their fissures seem more pronounced...for the time being anyway.

The BOG meeting would be great entertainment to sit in on, I think. ;)

Clarke is a joke. He has no respect for anyone but himself. This is just the one of many idiotic comments he's made over his tenure as a player and as a GM. Im not a Goodenow fan or defending Goodenow at all but what Clarke said was just IDIOTIC but you can always expect this from him. He turned his back on a great coach and lied blatantly to his face and he ended another players career and had no remorse. I think he has the LEAST respect for the game out of anyone and is probably the most selfish guy in all of hockey.

To our credit (the posters on this thread), everyone agrees with your comments about Clarke. So I guess we're not morons, idiots, or schmucks. Goodenow however is all of the above and more.

As I said earlier:

I should have originally clarified this was by no means an endorsement for Bobby Clarke, who I believe is quite an idiot. Just thought it would make for 'fun' discussion.

The main thing I took from this article was Goodenow's response, which continues his track record of making himself look like a childish arse.

Goodenow>>Clarke (greater idiot that is).

Yes we do in Hamilton and Southern Ontario but not in those 2 other markets...........to bad you don't think so........next time do your homework.

2- Do you have the support of over 10,000 fans WILLING to pay 100$+ for the best tickets in town ?

Hamilton ? IF the AHL tickets is not a sold-out , how can you expect to get 10,000 fans @ 100$ piece ?

What does AHL attendance have to do with anything.........Toronto last season with the Roadrunners had even worse AHL attendance figures than Hamilton.........so now what do you suggest?.....that Toronto doesn't deserve NHL Maple Leafs because of pathetic attendance figures last season at the Ricoh Coliseum?..........heh heh heh.........I don't think so buddy.........and back when Hamilton was trying to land expansion team we had over 14,000 fans make down-payments for seasons tickets in less than 48-hours.........so once again, next time do your homework..........maybe you should just stick to Russian hockey......

Winnipeg ? Same thing.

Québec ? When the Nordiques was there the best ticket was 45-50$ bucks ! Now they are around 100-150$ ! Sorry next !

I can't speak for those 2 other Canadian markets.......I'm from Hamilton.

You are a very IGNORANT person...........Hamilton has already an 18,500-seat Arena in place.........have you never heard of the Copps Coliseum?........as far as corporate boxes we have some already but could use some more and would only take Hamilton 6-months tops for the necessary upardes and renovations.....heck, NHL even allowed Ottawa Senators to play their first 2-seasons in the NHL out of a junior hockey rink, the home of the OHL 67s.......shouldn,t be a problem playing hockey at 18,500 seat Copps Coliseum............once again tisk tisk tisk; do your homework. :lol

Funny that you should even bring up the St.Louis Blues....one time they even came close to moving to Hamilton as well...........as far as I'm concerned I am so happy about this NHL player lockout..........the longer these players stay locked out the better it will be for a place very deserving of NHL hockey like Hamilton Ontario to finally land an NHL club of their own................................

I'm sorry but who here's not doing his research. How many Luxury boxes the Copps Coliseum ? It's no more how many seats you can put inside the arena but how many corporate support you can have.

The Copps Coliseum doesn't respond to the NHL standards, I'm sorry but even Bettman told so a few years ago. (Don't have a link for that)

Russian Fan.............

Ummmm...........maybe the reason why you don't have the link is because Bettman never said anything like that..........I'll repeat what I've already told you; You should do your homework regarding the Hamilton market, the corporate support and the 18,500 world-class Copps Coliseum Arena that we already have here in place......why are you asking me how many luxury boxes that Hamilton has?....you should already know what the answer to that one is since you were the one on your high horse telling everybody that Hamilton doesn't have enough corporate boxes in the first place and since you were the one that said so first I will ask you then the question:

HOW MANY LUXURY BOXES IS HAMILTON SHORT OF IN ORDER TO BE UP TO NHL-STANDARDS?

I detect enthusiasm on your part because of the news.........that's ok.........nothing is conclusive at this point........let's see what SEVERSTAL has to say tomorrow.........I still think Hamilton is prime candidate for relocation........there will be team(s) looking to move their club here...........maybe even a club out of the market where your team plays?......heh heh heh....heaven forbid....Are you by any chance a fan of the Buffalo SaBORES???.......heh heh heh..............I really sincerely hope this player lockout lasts another 10-years..........having said that I also sincerely hope that this NHL player lockout doesn't hurt business over here at your Forums. :D

Hello!

Today's episode is being brought to you by the letter "T," the letter "M," and the letter "L."

"TML" will never allow another NHL team to set up shop in their balliwick.

Not as long as they're trying to sell tickets for the Marlies in Ricoh Colliseum.

No one time territorial rights fee can match the longterm return the TML institutional investors would recieve having the TML Southern Ontario market to themselves.

It's just not going to happen.
