Wow, Bob Corkum is a real brain surgeon. The NHL said their offer was a cap on player costs at $42.5 million plus benefits. Bob breaks out the things included in the cap, which are all player costs, and says that Bettman was lying to the public. Huh? A player cost is a player cost. I guess he would see no problem going in to buy a new SUV and having the dealer tell him the vehicle is $50K, but you have to pay extra for wheels, seats, an engine, a paint job and glass. The SUV is only for the frame, not the rest of the components that go into making the SUV. And these tools wonder why they are the butt of jokes?

:dunno:

You mean signing bonuses count towards the cap?!?!?

Hasn't Bettman learned from the mistakes of the NFL? I mean, geez, they clearly don't know what they're doing, what a mess that league is.

...interesting that he brings up the Poker League as a place Bettman should go (due to the fact that deception is welcomed there).

Seeing as how the ratings on ESPN2 have gone up since the lockout.

Maybe the owners should just give in to the players, allow a couple of owners to continue to overspend, and bankrupt the league ten years down the road.

At least the players will have gotten their money and retired by then, and the fans can just watch something else.

At least the players' principles and rights as workers will have been protected playing a sport that has slipped to cult status in the U.S., where most of the teams are located.

Yup, I think the owners should just fold (to continue the poker analogy).

Then the league can fold in ten years.

Of course, we all know that the owners are actually making hundreds of millions in profits, and simply hiding them from CCRA, the IRS, etc, and are all a bunch of greedy men in suits with no love for the game, and no motive for owning a hockey team except to squeeze every last penny out of the fans and players, who are standing up for their union brethren worldwide. :lol

Maybe the owners should just sell their teams now, getting what they can for them (say, $60m like Disney got for the Ducks) and buy teams in sports that more people watch.

Like arena football.
