Bob Clarke was one of the greatest players to ever lace them up. 3 Hart trophies and a Selke, 4th all time in points at the time of his retirement. Just as good defensively as he was offensively, while also bringing a physical game that was pretty unmatched. Absolute demon on the faceoff dot. He never finished as a - player in 15 seasons on the flyers. He literally coached the team while playing in his final years. Not to mention captain of one of the greatest teams the NHL has ever seen. He was GM over a team that went to the finals twice and lost to two dynasties.

Quite frankly, Bob Clarke was a freak of a player.

One had to compete with Gretzky and Lemieux, the other one didn't :thumbu:

Gretzky won his last Hart in 1989. Yzerman played 16 more seasons after that. Clarke also had to compete with prime Orr. Yzerman also had the benefit of playing in the most offensive era in NHL history, and had one of the top 3 greatest defenseman ever on his team for most of his career.

Flyers weren't even the best team of that era.... yea they were good and won back to back but the Bruins and Habs were both much more dominant.

Because Bobby Orr was was such a slouch compared to Mario and Gretzky during Clarke's era...:sarcasm:

Clarke even took the Hart the year Orr broke his own record as the most goals by defenseman ever...

After Clarke already won 3 Harts and was past his prime. Hardly competition at that point.

They won back to back cups, then set the league record for the longest unbeaten streak of 30+ games the following season...

Yeah, not dominant...

You talking about Lidstrom? Yzerman was past his peak and prime well before Lidstrom became a Norris calibre d-man, let alone top 3 of all time calibre.

LOL at those who take Yzerman the player before Clarke. One has three Harts and the other one zero but okay...

One played against Gretzky and Lemieux his whole career, while the other didn't play against the 2 best players for more than 1-2 seasons!
