Personally, I would keep our 1st at all costs. Hopefully one of Sobotka/Berglund can get an extra 2nd round pick which we can use to move up, or we can just keep them. We need to stock up, especially on RD and C. Another G prospect couldn't hurt either.

May not need to use assets on Hoffman if we can sign JVR. The problem is that JVR is a LW - not sure if he plays RW.

If Draisatl has still been playing with McD instead of centering his own line, I want absolutely nothing to do with that contract, let alone what EDM would want in return. 8.5/7yrs no thanks.

Army needs to decide where he wants to go from here at the draft.

Personally I would like to see him off load some veteran contracts. Guys like Gunnarsson, Sobotka, Berglund and Bouwmeester.

Then try like hell to sign Tavares in the week long "talking period" if it seems like he isn't interested circle back around to Stastny.

Fill in the roster with prospects competing for spots.

Fabbri - Tavares/Stastny - Tarasenko
Schwartz - Schenn - ???
Steen - ??? - ???
??? - ??? - Soshnikov

We have a ton of young players to choose from in Barbashev, Sanford, Jaskin, Thompson, Sundqvist, Blais, Thomas, Kyrou, Kostin or Foley to fill in those ???s.

That'd be my guess right now. Sobotka is obvious trade bait and it sounds like Winnipeg's 1st probably will be too. That's the start of a package there, so add a couple prospects for a top 6 guy? I'd have to go through and see who could even be available.

I think Kostin probably needs to start the year in the AHL based on what I've seen from him this season. Kyrou is a wild card here, I'd assume he probably battles Thompson for 1 spot on RW and the loser starts in the AHL. They can be flopped through the season if need be.

I do also wanna shop Bouwmeester hard for anything you can get. He sucks. Roll Eddy/Dunn/Gunnar/Walman down the left side and that'll be fine. Petro/Parayko/Bortuzzo on the right. We'd have plenty of cap room.

That's just it. Isn't this hypothetically an easier problem to solve then the age old Blues question "Where are we gonna get a 1C". I'd much rather be on the hunt for a top4 RHD, then a 1C. Not to mention Draisaitl's age fits in perfect with our 'Big 4' + Fabbri(please be healthy). You legit can build around these kids for the next 7+ years. All those years being 'prime' age years for Leon.

Not really? I mean, the question here isn't "What 1C are we looking for" it's "What top 6 center are we looking for." And I'm not ruling out Stastny as a free agent target this off-season either until he officially signs somewhere else. Sure, a No.1 Center would be awesome, but we don't know if thats what Drai's going to be, as we've never really seen him be succesful in that role to any degree.

I would rather keep Parayko, but now that we are discussing his hypothetical replacement, I would rather have Chris Tanev. Sound at both ends. I think if we traded Parayko, it is what Colton provides defensively that we would miss the most. It may not appear on the score sheet, but we would really feel that loss.

That's what's so intriguing about this deal. Both kids would get a chance to be 'the guy', something they both might not get for a very long time in their current situations. Leon his chance at being a franchise 1C and Parayko obviously being a Top Pairing D.

Lots to process here, but takeaway to me is he is a fine player but with McDavid he looks like a superstar and without he doesn't.

I don't think Armstrong has plans to move Parayko pretty much ever. I think there is a possibility that we are looking into the following centers for next season, and I think they will be available: Stastny, Tavares, and RNH. I think we'll grab one of those guys, and we'll likely be experimenting with Fabbri, Barbashev, Thompson, Thomas, and Sanford at center.
