I get the idea of selling high on Kyrou. Just not sure who or what to target.

A rental isnt the answer. Fitting in more salary with someone under control is a challenge too. Other players on their ELC or futures are the only thing I can think of.

Rakell would be a good target but it would still be hard to fit his salary and an extension to AP.

I see Bobby Bortz has popped up on TSN's trade bait board at number 25. Just thought it was kind of strange since I haven't heard any rumors of him being available.

While I can see the logic of moving Bortz due to our RHD logjam, I think it would be a bad idea. He seems like one of those heart and soul guys, is probably popular with teammates and is one of the few guys we have who can mix it up physically. And obviously, we likely won 't be moving a D-man is Bouwmeester will remain out for an extended period of time.

If Josh Manson is truly available, I'd be on that for a 1st, Kyrou & ...something. He's not a rental and has a $4.1M cap hit. Bob Murray won't give him away...but the Blues have the pieces to make a 'hockey trade' that helps their rebuild and our Cup defense aspirations.

Another righty though. He'd be a more ideal partner for Dunn though, at a cost that is more reasonable than Faulk.

Lindholm and Folwer are their LHD.

Brodin could be intersting if we are interested in a deal within the division.

Another name that has been floating out there as a rental is Brenden Dillon. I'm not sure if he's a guy that would fit well with Petro or Parayko, but he wouldn't require any cap space if JBo, as expected, ends up on LTIR the rest of the year. From a size standpoint, he certainly fits the mold of a Blues D, but he's not a guy I've watched much so I don't really know if he would be a good fit from a play-style standpoint.

I wonder if we do some due diligence on Brady Skjei. Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic has him being available. He could probably slide right into that Bouwmeester role, assuming Bouwmeester's career is in danger.

Yes the Bouwmeester situation is unfortunate but it’s possible this could have been his last season anyway. Play Mikkola. He’s ready.

Now Gunnarsson likely stays on the team this Summer too, making Bozak and Allen the likely cap dumps via trade.

With Gunnarsson mixing in, he can spell both Bortuzzo or Mikkola some games and even play with Petro in others. Rotate and keep everyone fresh.

But this is our defense moving forward and should be next season for sure. I’d like to get Mikkola some experience and if he could learn from Parayko and grow into the Bouwmeester shut-down role, then we will be in fine shape.

I don't think Army gets forced into making a panic move, Mikkola proved good enough to play, and Faulk and Dunn have both done well in expanded roles. Berube now just needs to figure out his pairs.

That being said, I think Army will still do his due diligence just like he will on forwards.

Agree. Wouldn't be surprised if we actually deal for MDZ again.

Del Zotto is having a good year, he'd be a perfect Del Zotto type acquisition again for sure. He's seeing 18 mins per night and actually leading the team in +/-
