What a terrible hockey game. Both these "playoff" teams were awful. Might be the least entertaining game I've ever seen live. Absolutely no energy other than a couple shifts from the third line.

At least the Flames ended up on the right side of it for once. Only made more impressive by the terrible officiating, but at least they gave them the goal they deserve this time.

What a terrible hockey game.

This is what Gulutzan hockey looks like. We win the corsi battle, the fenwick battle, the possession battle, all the other advanced stats battles, in the most boring hockey imaginable.

All I want is for them to forget stupid dumbass advanced stats exist and just play some exciting hockey. Like I said a week ago when we lost, I feel bad for season ticket holders and the rest who pay money to watch this kind of hockey. Win or lose, the games are usually not that exciting for the majority of the play.

I remember Burke and Tre saying they were going to bring an exciting brand of hockey to Calgary for fans to enjoy. Well this is dreadful to watch.

I think a huge problem is the PP, it takes all the energy out of the team and the building when they get multiple opportunities a night and never capitalize. They're like 1/30 in the past 7 games. Watching 8-10 minutes of our PP be completely inept can really take the fun out of a hockey game because it usually ends up with 3-5 minutes after of the Flames trying to get their energy back. It's not even the fact they don't score on the PP anymore, they are painful to watch; no puck movement/minimal back and forth between the 3 high guys, terrible outside shots that don't work, no one moves around, 20% zone entry conversion. Flames need to pay a powerplay specialist coach to get something out of them. It goes beyond "well they aren't executing" from the stupid coaching staff, wtf are they supposed to execute? f***ing coaches are clueless.

Not sure why some people exempt GG from the PP. It's totally his fault regardless, he is the head coach. But it's his style to be calm and do nothing. Pathetic

Bitch when we lose because we suck, bitch when we win because we're boring. We are losing sight of the big picture: the team is still far above the oil in the standings :)

I don’t understand why anyone would take issue with “boring hockey” while we’re winning. This team is built from the back end out and I think GG’s system suits them very well. We don’t have the offensive talent to play a run and gun style. Better to win 2-1 than lose 7-5.

Any word on Hamonic?

Better hope he's okay:

"Remember that the holiday roster freeze is in effect, so if Hamonic is ruled out for Friday’s game, the Flames will either be dressing Matt Bartkowski or using just five defencemen, and we all know they’ll do the former over the latter every time. The only way Rasmus Andersson comes up is if Hamonic is still injured by the time the freeze lists on Dec. 28. (On the plus side, if it comes to that, both the Heat and the Flames are in San Jose that day, so a recall would be insanely easy.)"

I'd dress Bartkowski and just let Hamonic rest unless they're 100% sure he's okay.

Also I could be mistaken, but teams can still recall players during the holiday freeze, can't they? I thought it just prevented players from being waived/sent down/traded.

Edit: According to sbnation;

"This week-long roster freeze is a system built into the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement. During this time, no NHL team can trade or move a player in an agreement that requires waivers. Via NHL.com, the roster freeze can be summed up as follows:

Simply stated, it prevents any players on NHL active rosters or injured reserve from being traded, waived or loaned..."

There are exceptions to the rule. Players in a team’s AHL system can be recalled to fill a hole in their team, allowing teams to keep a healthy roster during the freeze. Free agents can be signed during the freeze and any player placed on waivers before the freeze and is claimed after must report to their new team.

Bartkowski back in the lineup. The thing of nightmares.

We're not scoring enough for him to cost us a goal a game.

I'm pretty sure a roster freeze is a freeze on all roster transactions.

Another one:

If Hamonic is injured, the Flames can recall someone. They just can't do anything that would involve waivers.

What I'm surprised with is there has been no game this year that we've been down were we decide to just bang and crash and try to change the flow of the game. With guys like Ferland, Tkachuk, Bennett, Brouwer, Hathaway, Lazar, Hamonic, Hamilton and even Gio, we should be able to lay some heavy hits, wear them down and at least make sure they're walking out of the Dome with a limp. But I don't think Ferland has had two big hits this year. Is Gully just trying to keep everyone healthy?!

I'm glad we won.

A couple of quick points I'd like to make.

1) Wouldn't it be wonderfully ironic if Bennett and Jankowski turned out to the ones to save this team over the next couple of years? A bit like Backlund who was somewhat of a late bloomer. I think Tkachuk is in that category (not a late bloomer, but part of the young core), but he's been excellent from day one.

2) Johnny has more time on the PP than he plays like a lot of times. He plays like he's being pressed more than he is. I think some of that is reflective of "squeezing the stick" right now, but still. It's too bad because if he just relaxed a bit I think it would open up or offensive zone and possession time on the PP. And he's probably the one we count on most to do just that. Watching Tamp/Vegas the other day, it's amazing how The Lightning are able to slow things down. That's what we need to see IMO.

Lol. When we play good defensive structure and allow the other team 5 shots in the third with a one goal lead—> we are boring. Fire the boring coach.

When we play end to end Hartley hockey—> we can’t defend; trade everyone. Fire the coach that can’t teach defence.

Reading this site never gets old.
