I've bought a total of $150 over past year just as a "lets see what this does" thing. It's now at 382.64. Have set my "sell" mark at this point at $300 if it goes down to there. I will have at minimum doubled my $. Know nothing about any of this, totally going blind. Good plan or ?
Bought a coin when it was down below 3900 a coin. Sold half when it hit above 20,000 after the election. It’s nearing 30,000 now

Played some online poker due to boredom when Covid hit and withdrew 1K+ in Bitcoin. Hadn’t checked the account in a while and was pleasantly surprised to see it was up to about 5K.

Now I just need to figure out what to buy...

I've been looking this bitcoin up. All the items I've seen just explain how it's used with only a basic description of computers mining it. A few questions:

Why is there a fixed number of possible coins and the math behind it? I assume since there is a fixed number, it must have a basis in mathematics.

I'm not too interested on how to use it, more interested in the technical side if anyone can help.
