Not comparing the 2. Just saying MSL faced the same hurdles as Seney early in his career. His ceiling was underestimated by some Calgary fans due to size
You literally compared them, I don't know how your post can be read any other way. You compared that they both lead their NCAA teams in scoring, you compared their first NHL season stats, and you said "the age to age comparison is interesting".

That your comparison was bad and incredibly flawed is the point, since you selectively compared them in the most favorable way possible and just a little more context completely dismantles the comparison. Your argument that they are both facing the same challenges due to size bias is laughable, since the NHL heavily favors speed and skill now compared with when St. Louis was struggling to get an NHL chance when slower, stronger players dominated the league, especially in depth roles. Can you even point out where anyone has said Seney is too small to make the NHL? The issue is he isn't good enough, not his size.

If you want to argue that Seney should be playing in the NHL, at least put forward a competent argument, instead of relying on special pleading and denying your own arguments when called out on it.

Allow me.

Seney: NCAA - 0.83 ppg, AHL - 0.71 ppg
St. Louis: NCAA - 1.92 ppg, AHL - 1.20 ppg (in the dead puck era no less)

Martin St. Louis also played in a time where small players were undervalued because of all the clutching and grabbing in the NHL. Times have changed, and if he hit the league now he'd go straight to the NHL from the NCAA and may not have even finished his NCAA time before making the NHL.

To be fair, both college and the AHL were higher scoring back when St. Louis started out. I don't think the changes in the game had yet filtered down to the lower levels when St. Louis was in college and when he got to the pros there were still two competing minor leagues of relatively equal ability. The competition from the IHL took away a lot of 'AHL pros' that would otherwise be playing there and the average goals per game in the AHL was at 6.36 in 1997-98 whereas the NHL was at 5.27 goals per game. Last season, for example, the AHL was at 6.08 G/GP and the NHL was at 5.95 G/GP (shootouts not removed).

That said, the case for Seney being another St. Louis isn't strong - the fact that we even need to go back 20 years to find an example of a college UDFA who broke out like this doesn't speak well for anyone's chances of doing so.

MSL is a huge reach of a comparison.

But Seney does not need to be MSL.

Right now I'm just hoping he, McLeod, Maltsev, Bastian etc, can turn Bing into a competitive team.

Then we can take it from there.

Thought on Jacobs.

Overall I thought he was a very positive influence on the game. Diving into offensive chances, supporting plays, in general being in position to keep the puck in Bing's favor, now he had some flubs which make you question his NHL potential but I thought he looked like a valuable AHL d-man.
