Wasn't it just a week ago where Francis said he wasn't calling a guy up to just play a handful of minutes a night? To me, it seems like this move is more of his actions matching his words.
Serious question....given his statement about ice time, do you think Francis is irritated at Peters or is that just some conspiracy theory shit.

What's weird to me. is you think there would be a discussion on calling players up between the two.

So I find it confusing why Francis would call up Wallmark and Peters play him for under 5 minutes when that's very clearly not what Francis wants. You would think there would be dialogue between the two and them both make a decision.

Right now it seems Francis is doing whatever he wants personnel wise and Peters is doing whatever he wants lineup wise.

I would think these two things would be discussed together and decisions made and respected together. But right now it doesn't seem that way.

1 team. Canes are 30th out of 31 teams but there are a number of teams just as bad. Edmonton is the worst.

Bottom 5 are:

Buffalo: .899
Arizona: .899
Ottawa: .898
Carolina: .898
Edmonton: .894

I'm impressed both with the fact that we are that close to .900 and that we are sniffing a playoff spot with that hot mess. It's a good thing we went out and fixed our goal tending last summer, I'd hate to see what it would have been like when it was broken.

Somehow there are two teams with worse save% than the canes. Not sure how that is possible. One call up having one really bad game maybe?

I feel disgusted when I look at that list.

This stinks.

It feels like there's a lot of nasty right under the surface here, and passive/aggressive nonsense going both ways. "I need better talent," Peters says. "I'm not gonna call up guys to play 5 minutes a night," Francis says. "I'm not gonna play this AHL guy for more than 5 minutes", Peters says. "Then I'll send him back down" Francis says. And then in the presser last night, when asked about the trade deadline: "I'm sure management has some kind of plan," Peters says, strongly implying that whatever the plan is, he's not part of it.

It's a bad, bad, *bad* look. And Dundo better get his head around it in a hurry.

Agreed....keeping him up here, letting him practice w/the team (although they aren't practicing today and tomorrow, or so I thought I heard) would be something of a reward....at least financially.

IIRC, players are paid the NHL rate based on games with the team, not time with the team. It's how many games you're on the roster for, not days, so sending Wallmark down now or Thursday makes no difference to his pocketbook.

If they truly are both acting that way, Dundon should launch both of them into the sun.

It's amazing we are bad at so much and even sniffing a playoff spot.

And I really don't understand why Wallmark is either played 5 minutes or plays more and is guaranteed to get beaten like a mule. He might play well in a bigger role. That is a possibility. But I guess we'll never find out.

I'm feeling better and better about my Kruger and Jooris waiver reasons. Well, not better, because as you said, it is not the way to run an organization, but better in that I don't think I'm crazy.

From just 11 days ago:

Q: Would calling up a player or two from the Charlotte Checkers help make you better?
A: “We look at all options and that’s certainly one of them. Contrary to what people may believe, (coach) Bill (Peters) and I and the management team do have a lot of discussions. We’re on the same page in what we’re trying to accomplish. In our mind it’s putting the best team on the ice we believe can win that night.

“We’ve got a lot of good prospects in Charlotte, there’s no question. Having them play 18 or 20 minutes a game there versus being up here and playing six minutes and being out of the game at the end isn’t going to help us. It’s getting these guys to the point where when they come up here they’re in the top six, top nine guys. It’s something we talk about and evaluate when we go game to game and try to figure out which buttons need to be pushed to make us more successful.”

Just want to note that this theory about a bitter feud between Francis and Peters has been reported nowhere in the press, nowhere on social media, nowhere except here on HFBoards.

Reading a loooootttt into literally a handful of sentences at a presser with no context for what's happening behind closed doors.

Peters has been trying to force Francis to trade for a damn top 6 center. The most effective way to force that is to play Derek Ryan 20 minutes a night.

I choose to believe that’s what’s happening otherwise I have to believe he coach thinks that’s a viable strategy for winning hockey games.
I actually believe that Peters loves Ryan because of their history and he plays like he wants his team to play.

But isn't that what we do here....

Wasn't one of your, and others, main arguments that the moves Francis made was to force Peters to play Aho and Lindholm at center for extended periods of time? It still hasn't happened.

And as Tarheel mentions, there has been nothing reported of this anywhere. Just ridiculous speculation around here.

But again, it seems like those that want to believe in conspiracies will turn any move or non-move into evidence. I guess we'll know by the end of the season if either Peters, Francis, or both gets fired. Because I can't imagine Dundon will let things to continue this way even if he truly does think highly of the two of them.

Yeah, that's where I have been as well. A coach and GM aren't going to see eye to eye on 100% of things anyhow.

For all we know, Peter's could have talked to Francis after the game and said "We are too close to a playoff spot for me to be giving guys like Wallmark too much playing time right now." and Francis agreed so they sent him down. Who knows.

That said, with how tight lipped Francis is, we may never hear about it in the media so I won't completely discount it. I'm sure both of them are very frustrated right now. Peters, rightfully, feels he needs more talent and isn't afraid to say it.

Francis and Peters could be holding hands and drinking Kinetico filtered water together this very minute, and Peters would still be on the hot seat to make the playoffs.

I’ll believe there’s a feud when I see it from someone on the inside who knows what’s actually going on. Otherwise I take the Occam’s Razor view of how coaching tenures usually come to an end.

There’s that too. People say things under one set of conditions and then do something different when conditions change. People get frustrated with their colleagues without wanting them fired. There are a lot of human elements here which are all x-factors from our perspective.

I don’t think, or have ever said, that the two of them were at each other’s throats. I merely suggested they were in disagreement and Ron was using his leverage by waiving the two. If they were at each other’s throats, I’m certain Peters would be gone.
